A Word from Christopher: Felix Dies Nativitatis! Here is a small Christmas etymological study for the many language lovers in our CAP customer family: As you know (or might guess), Felix Dies Nativitatis is the rough equivalent of our "Merry Christmas," but even closer to the British "Happy Christmas." Let's take a closer look: Felix: This word is related to the Latin word felicitas which means "fertility, happiness, felicity" and "good fortune." Felix can mean "fruitful, fertile," but also "fortunate, favorable, lucky," and even "rich, successful" and "blessed with healing power." Dies: This is Latin word for "day." We get the word "diurnal, diary" and "journal" from dies. Nativitatis: This is the genitive of nativitas, the Latin word for "birth" and in particular the birth of Christ=E2=80=94also known as the nativity. N= ativitas is related to natus (born) and the English words "native, nation" and "national." So when we say Felix Dies Nativitatis we are saying something like "Happy (fruitful, favorable) Day of (Christ's) Nativity!" Perhaps this is a nerdy way to greet you this Christmas, but I trust that many of you cannot help but be cheered by a word study of this favorite holiday!
