make world (or make buildworld, make installworld) is used when you want to (re)build the system. I believe this is what you want. make release is for when you want to build a release of FreeBSD that other people can install from. For example, when you get the boot floppies, run the installation, and download the binaries from the internet, what you are downloading was created with a make release. Linux and RedHat Linux. so tried to shift to a FreeBSD system. i´ve heard that´s the right way ...laugh but all i got from an physicist at university was the basic system with X. the rest are sources. what´s the difference between make world and make release. the disk space isn´t a problem. nor is the download from the net. i´m able to burn the sources on a cd-rom at university. so the costs should be very low. thanks in advance. bye oliver ps: sorry for my bad english. i´m from germany.
