I hope you'll reconsider. Certainly many books that list Internet references also mention IRC. Personally, I can't count how many times I've gone to IRC for some question or another. Its quick, easy, and you don't have to subscribe to an email list. I agree complete that they can be spontaneous and not within Walnut Creek's control. But again my experience has been that they can be invaluable resources and many successful IRC channels remain as fairly stable meeting places. I don't think it would hurt anything to say something like: You may also want to check out IRC channels on EFNET, DALNET, or UNDERNET such as #FreeBSD, #FreeBSDHelp, #FreeBSDAdmin, or other channels that contain the word "FreeBSD". Be fair warned, however, that the quality of responses you get may vary. I'd like to say I'm not personally involved with any of these IRC channels. I'm a "newbie" to FreeBSD. I just thought it would help to get more people into some of the IRC channels to make it a better resource for all of us.
