Jonathan already knows, but a couple of guys at yahoo are very excited
about this stuff as it looks like it can replace our hack that we've been
using for a few years. This stuff is designed to replace a select/poll
loop and avoids the expensive setup/teardown of select/poll state each time
around the loop.
