I've been using transmission-cli and transmission-daemon (with the 
transmission-remote command line tool) for maintaining torrents (service 
with a CLI to access it). Mine is on an Ubuntu box, but I do see a newer 
version than mine (2.82 cf 2.51) is available in ports net-p2p/transmission*
