Yeah, I tried that.  Like I said, I went thru the XF86Config file, and 
tried all the options that looked like they might pass.  Terry suggested 
trying to hold the left mouse button key down thru a power cycle of the 
system, and that converted the trackballs into looking like a 3 button 
MouseSystems mice, so I guess I'm happy right now.  I can s---can the 
older stuff, and get to work!
