You are always searching by 'score' and the cgi script re-sort the N results by score, date, subject or author. 'sort by' changes the presentation of the results, not the search engine. > Instead, all matches > should be found, sorted, then the first N displayed. Well, you can set the number of results N to a high value (100 or 500). When the system booted it reported a "panic: cant mount root" error. I tried the recommended command in instruction 1 and it did not work. I posted this on one of the FreeBSD newgroups and got a sucessfuly reply. First: using 1:wd(2,a)kernel worked as opposed to 1:wd(2,a) /kernel which is in the FAQ. Second: echo "1:wd(2,a)kernel" > /boot.config works as tested on my machine. I don't know if changing this will affect earlier versions FreeBSD, I don't have any earlier versions on which to test it with. Anyway keep up the good work it si appreciated. The FAQ definitely does not have a space in front of the slash. AFAIK it should work just as well with or without the slash (as long as you don't throw in a space). In fact, just "1:wd(2,a)" should work I think. If so, can you put them in a PR and use 'send-pr' to get them in (replying to this message might work, but there's a greater chance that someone will pick them up if you use send-pr). > Implementing simple web based discussion groups would be a plus too. > Sure, mailing lists are very useful but *scoff* there are more up to > date ways quite easily achieved with FreeBSD. I'd start one up myself > if I could afford a dedicated link. I disagree. I can't filter a web-based discussion system to only include particular authors. I can't bounce appropriate messages to friends. I can't use my usual editor when I'm replying to messages. I can't change the colours to use what I normally use when I'm reading mail. I can't get automatic notification when new mail is sent to the list. Use the web for web stuff. Use mail for mail stuff.
