I disabled OpenJIT because it adds an additional overhead since it is written in Java, and I performed about 5 or 6 consecutive executions before the numbers stabilized (I guess the vm subsystem plays an important part here). The results are: Greg's font.properties: Class load took: 379 ms. AWT startup took: 846 ms. Frame create took: 29 ms. Robert's font.properties (with URW fonts): Class load took: 379 ms. AWT startup took: 832 ms. Frame create took: 29 ms. It seems that the difference is rather negligible (~1%). This is on a system with XFree86 4.0.1_8. Thats because these are the Motif include files. Maybe you should check you have Motif installed and ALT_MOTIF_DIR points to it correctly. - Greg To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-java" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-java Tue Dec 5 15:45:40 2000 From owner-freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Dec 5 15:45:36 2000 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Received: from hotmail.com (oe20.law9.hotmail.com [64.4.8.124]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B16C237B400 for ; Tue, 5 Dec 2000 15:45:36 -0800 (PST) Received: from mail pickup service by hotmail.com with Microsoft SMTPSVC; Tue, 5 Dec 2000 15:45:36 -0800 X-Originating-IP: [63.197.90.253] Reply-To: "Ajay Jagannath" From: "Ajay Jagannath" To: Subject: Java Pgm Hangs Date: Tue, 5 Dec 2000 15:45:33 -0800 Organization: Alcatel Internetworking MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary="----=_NextPart_000_00F2_01C05ED2.673EB5C0" X-Priority: 1 X-MSMail-Priority: High X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 5.50.4133.2400 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V5.50.4133.2400 Message-ID: X-OriginalArrivalTime: 05 Dec 2000 23:45:36.0642 (UTC) FILETIME=[77464620:01C05F15] Sender: owner-freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_00F2_01C05ED2.673EB5C0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Hi=20 import java.net.*; public class TestSocket extends Thread { private ServerSocket s1 =3D null; private ServerSocket s2 =3D null; =20 public TestSocket() throws Exception { s1 =3D new ServerSocket(20000); s1.setSoTimeout(500); =20 s2 =3D new ServerSocket(21000); s2.setSoTimeout(500); }=20 =20 public static void main(String args[]) throws Exception { TestSocket ts =3D new TestSocket(); ts.start(); } =20 public void run() { for(;;) { Socket in; try { System.out.println("s1 timeout "+s1.getSoTimeout()); in =3D s1.accept(); } catch(Exception e) { System.out.println(e.getMessage()); } try { System.out.println("s2 timeout "+s2.getSoTimeout()); in =3D s2.accept(); } catch(Exception e1) { System.out.println(e1.getMessage()); } } } } When I set the system date back by 3 or minutes using the date command = than the above java program hanges. The reason is there are a couple of shared libraries that need to be loaded... however all you have access to is the linux binaries. The linux shared libraries will kill in your native JVM. I got the source code from version 1.3, but it was not easy getting everything compiled. Once I got it to compile, I installed it and gave it a try... well everything died. After that I gave up. As far as the source code goes, I could not find the jpda code in linux version 1.2 and it specifically says it comes only in Linux 1.2.2 and version 1.3 code. Hope I did not confuse everyone... later Michael Mercer Ernst de Haan wrote: > Hi Rob, > > You can just take the jdpa.jar file from a Linux or Windows JDK and use it > with your FreeBSD JDK. However, the patches there will leave you with a jdb that doesn't work. To get it working again you need to also apply the following patch to /src/freebsd/javavm/runtime/javai_md.c - Greg --- javai_md.c 2000/04/23 03:05:57 1.3 +++ javai_md.c 2000/11/07 21:01:50 1.4 @@ -120,8 +120,8 @@ return NULL; } sprintf(sysclasspath, - "%s/lib/rt.jar:%s/lib/i18n.jar:%s/classes", - home_path, home_path, home_path); + "%s/lib/rt.jar:%s/lib/i18n.jar:%s/../lib/jpda.jar:%s/classes", + home_path, home_path, home_path, home_path); sprops.sysclasspath = sysclasspath; } To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-java" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-java Fri Dec 8 12:19:47 2000 From owner-freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Dec 8 12:19:45 2000 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Received: from venus.entic.net (venus.entic.net [209.157.122.122]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4CC2A37B400 for ; Fri, 8 Dec 2000 12:19:45 -0800 (PST) Received: (qmail 66817 invoked from network); 8 Dec 2000 20:19:35 -0000 Received: from venus.entic.net (aj@209.157.122.122) by venus.entic.net with SMTP; 8 Dec 2000 20:19:35 -0000 Date: Fri, 8 Dec 2000 12:19:35 -0800 (PST) From: Anil Jangity To: Subject: Problems with Jdk1.1.8... Also I was looking at sun web site for Java1.1.8 src but was not able to find any. Do you have a more specific link to exactly where I can get this from? They only [if they are the full jdk src] seem to have JDK1.1.8_12 for solaris/intel - which doesn't conform to the jdk1.1.8 freebsd patch set. Thanks for your help! You can't just get the JDK 1.1.8 source. You used to be able to get it after signing an NDA, but they may not still be possible. > They only [if they are the full jdk src] seem to have JDK1.1.8_12 for > solaris/intel - which doesn't conform to the jdk1.1.8 freebsd patch set. They release binaries, the patchset is for the source. - Greg To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-java" in the body of the message
