I'm trying to build Firefox 0.9.3 on 4.10 FreeBSD. I updated ports before I attempted this build. I am running FreeBSD on a dual P3 system. I have not modified my /etc/defaults/make.conf nor do I have an /etc/make.conf file. There is nothing in my root's env regarding CPUFLAGS or compiler options. Do I need to specify any kernel threading or SCHED options? When I run mozilla I see: cmd mozilla-bin pid 283 tried to use non-present sched_get_priority_min cmd mozilla-bin pid 283 tried to use non-present sched_get_priority_max Here is what I see when a ports build of Firefox 0.9.3 fails: /lib/libfreebl.a /usr/ports/www/firefox/work/mozilla/dist/lib/libsecutil.a /usr/ports/www/firefox/work/mozilla/dist/lib/libdbm.a -L/usr/ports/www/firefox/work/mozilla/dist/lib -lplc4 -lplds4 -lnspr4 -pthread ../../../../coreconf/nsinstall/FreeBSD4.10_DBG.OBJ/nsinstall -R -m 775 FreeBSD4.10_DBG.OBJ/mangle /usr/ports/www/firefox/work/mozilla/dist/bin gmake[4]: Leaving directory `/usr/ports/www/firefox/work/mozilla/security/nss/cmd/shlibsign/mangle' FreeBSD4.10_DBG.OBJ/shlibsign -v -i /usr/ports/www/firefox/work/mozilla/dist/lib/libsoftokn3.so Assertion failure: -1 != pt_book.minPrio, at ptthread.c:843 Abort trap (core dumped) gmake[3]: *** [/usr/ports/www/firefox/work/mozilla/dist/lib/libsoftokn3.chk] Error 134 gmake[3]: Leaving directory `/usr/ports/www/firefox/work/mozilla/security/nss/cmd/shlibsign' gmake[2]: *** [libs] Error 2 gmake[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/ports/www/firefox/work/mozilla/security/manager' gmake[1]: *** [tier_40] Error 2 gmake[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/ports/www/firefox/work/mozilla' gmake: *** [default] Error 2 *** Error code 2 Stop in /usr/ports/www/firefox. Also, make sure that Soft-Updates is turned off on your root directory. Because Soft-Updates doesn't immediately free the space on the drive. It happened again, and while in the kernel debugger (serial console), typing 'help' offers me the following functions in addition to the standard stuff: ahd_set_unit ahd_pause ahd_unpause ahd_in ahd_out Any idea what I could do with these? OS is FreeBSD 4.10 , .. , 4.2 Questions at the end. 3 SCSI-Harddisks (Quantum ATLAS10K3) as Raid5 (vinum) produce the following errors on current hardware (ie LSI mtp-controller dual channel U320) - it takes a few file operations, though: mpt0: bullet missed in timeout mpt1: bullet missed in timeout (offending disks are located at mpt) I/O-Performance is ok, but a simple 'find' that is running through all directories will bring the system to a near-halt after half a minute or so. Copying a 90MB file on the vinum-raid works like a charm and does not trigger this behaviour. I tried reducing / disabling tagged queueing, but that did not help Even added an entry in cam_xpt.c with /*quirks*/0, /*mintags*/24, /*maxtags*/32 which seemed to worsen the effect. According to the datasheet I just found. These disks have a queue depth of 64. Mounting the drives (or the vinum-drive) read-only gives no errors, and rebuilding the array does not give an error either. So it looks like I need many consecutive read- and write- operations to trigger this behaviour (like with find, changing access times of directories). I have not found any possibility of updating the firmware either, so any clue is welcome. Disks located at mpt0 do not show any problems, even with buildworld. I had similar problems with the same disks on older hardware (Asus P2B-S) with FreeBSD 4-2, then upgraded to 4.10-STABLE and changed all the hardware except for the harddisks. - Anyone else who had these problems? - How can I find out on what drive the command queue grows indefinitely (till the system halts completely), if this is at all the case? - can I tune FreeBSD in this respect? - what are the exact meanings of mintags and maxtags and should I try something like /*quirks*/0, /*mintags*/2, /*maxtags*/64 ? - ... Hints on how to use camdebug are also welcome! This is supposed to be the reason why OpenBSD made PF(PacketFilter), insted of implementing ALT-Q and other functionality into IPF. This is probably useless information since the problem, most probably lies in FreeBSD's implementation of IPFilter, and not the IPFilter program it self. After installing a base OS disk (no problems there), I add other disks and partitions. Now, to be lazy, I usually cheat by using /stand/sysinstall, first fdisk, then label, no boot manager. Usually, it works 100% and I keep my lazy factor high. As of 4.10, it started to complain about invalid argument when I would create a parition, and attempt to newfs/mount it. So, I got "un"-lazy and attempted to do it manually. I do (using ar0 as the example device): fdisk -I ar0 disklabel -r -w ar0 auto disklabel -e ar0 I muck around in disklabel and make my partitions, expending *far* too much energy as compared to /stand/sysinstall. Save and exit. Then I do the nice newfs. newfs -N -b 16384 -f 2048 -i 32768 -c 102 /dev/ar0s1e It newfs's wonderfully, showing me all the superblock locations and such as I yawn at this unnecessary work. Then I attempt to mount the partition: mount /dev/ar0s1e /mnt And I get: sh1# mount /usr/home mount: /dev/ar0s1e on /usr/home: incorrect super block /var/log/messages shows: dscheck(#ar/0x20002): fixlabel: invalid magic fixlabel: invalid magic WHAT GIVES? I have attempted obliterating the info on disk with a dd to the c partition and the raw device itself. As mentioned, I have this problem with all sorts of devices, so a number of scenarios present themselves: 1. FreeBSD 4.10 disklabel/fdisk has some form of regression 2. I am the one suffering from the regression and being too lazy for too long forget what to do As another note, I attempted the same thing under FreeBSD 4.8 and had no problem!!! Any help would be appreciated. I've tried everything except taking the disks to dinner to get them to take a fileystem! -- Tony Holmes Ph: (416) 993-1219 Founder and Senior Systems Architect Crosswinds Internet Communications Inc. I am actually using the card on a 66mhz bus (no riser card), and I just noticed the Knowledge Base article before you mailed me back. The PDF link you posted is broken. Is an RMA necessary in my case? It appears they are providing a firmware upgrade that's supposed to take care of the problem (and my firmware is older). Installing that is my next step. So, either you replace your motherboard or replace your 3ware card with one that has noise immunity, or try to run the slot at 33 mhz instead. Call them up about it, as it is a well documented case, they probably should not give you the run around on it (like they have for me). - Carroll Kong ----- Original Message ----- From: "Philip Jenvey" To: "Carroll Kong" Cc: Sent: Tuesday, September 28, 2004 7:47 PM Subject: Re: FreeBSD 3ware & Maxtor problems > Carroll - > > Sure, I've cced -stable. > > I am actually using the card on a 66mhz bus (no riser card), and I just > noticed the Knowledge Base article before you mailed me back. It is equipped with a NEC ND-3500A and a Hitachi Deskstar 7K250 (160 GB, SATA flavour). Kernel startup just goes fine up until it arrives at the sata disc. It just hangs there with the following line: ata2-master: FAILURE - ATA_IDENTIFY status=51 error=4 LBA=0 What does this error message exactly mean ? The controller is probed as a atapci1: which is just right. I tried different combinations of ata and sata headers, but only when disconnecting the sata disc gets me to the install screen. (but of course no disc to install to then) I also made sure the drive cables are not to close to either the CPU and GPU. I looked at /var/log/messages and did not see any boot problems logged when I had CVSUPed to 5.3-BETA5 or 5.3-BETA6, attempted to boot, and then re-booted with the 5.2.1 kernel so that would suggest a problem mounting the file system for writing. The boot problems are occurring after I build the world, build the kernel and install the kernel but before I install the world. I looked at the GENERIC kernel from both the 5.2.1 and 5.3-BETA6 systems and the only options that 5.2.1 had and 5.3-BETA6 doesn't are: options PFIL_HOOKS options INVARIANT_SUPPORT 5.3-BETA6 has two options and eight devices that 5.2.1 doesn't. The options are: options GEOM_GPT options ADAPTIVE_GIANT The only two devices that I could possibly see affecting my system are: device mem device io I do have 5.3-BETAx installed on two other systems so I can't imagine why it's not working on this one Dell Celeron system that want it to be on. I don't imagine that I'm the only one having this problem as I have seen other cases reported but I haven't found a solution other than going to 6.0-CURRENT which I would like to stay away from since it'll probably be a while before it's considered stable. Any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated. It will be fixed in BETA7. It will be fixed in BETA7. In the mean time, you can avoid it by disabling your floppy drive (by setting hint.fd.0.disabled=3D1 at the loader) Gavin _______________________________________________ freebsd-questions@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-questions To unsubscribe, send any mail to "freebsd-questions-unsubscribe@freebsd.org" From owner-freebsd-stable@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Oct 1 23:18:10 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-stable@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A477C16A4CE for ; Fri, 1 Oct 2004 23:18:10 +0000 (GMT) Received: from vayudoot.cistel.com (vayudoot.chippower.com [206.191.44.103]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5B00F43D1D for ; Fri, 1 Oct 2004 23:18:05 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from Antigen_VAYUDOOT@cistel.com) Received: from mail pickup service by vayudoot.cistel.com with Microsoft SMTPSVC; Fri, 1 Oct 2004 19:15:22 -0400 From: Antigen_VAYUDOOT@FreeBSD.ORG To: stable@freebsd.org MIME-Version: 1.0 Message-ID: X-OriginalArrivalTime: 01 Oct 2004 23:15:22.0093 (UTC) FILETIME=[866311D0:01C4A80C] Date: 1 Oct 2004 19:15:22 -0400 Subject: Antigen found FILE FILTER= *.*.ZIP file X-BeenThere: freebsd-stable@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Production branch of FreeBSD source code List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 01 Oct 2004 23:18:10 -0000 Antigen for Exchange found jobs@cistel.com.zip matching FILE FILTER= *.*.ZIP file filter. The problem is not the compiling, but when i boot the kernel it freezes. First i thought it had to do with my S-ATA disk, but after removing that i got Watchdog timeouts no my NIC. I don't have a clue why the kernel isn't working and I wonder if S-ATA is supported. Who can help me out? I'm having a P4 2,8Ghz HT, P4C800E-deluxe motherboard 1x S-ATA hdd, 2x ATA hdd's. I'm running 4-Stable without problems, but as soon as i compile with smp support enabled the system won't boot. If more information is need, please tell me what you need to know and how i can get the infromation. With kind regards, Jeffrey -- ___________________________________________________________ Sign-up for Ads Free at Mail.com http://promo.mail.com/adsfreejump.htm
