The old BSD license adds additional responisbilities such as including information in your advertising, and a non-endorcement clause. The copyright, and therefore the right to license under a different license, remains with the original author. It is quite common (to the point of acceptability) to see that something has been put into the public domain as soon as it stops being kept secret. One often sees that a trade secret has been put into the public domain by being patented. I agree that such usage is confusing and shouldn't be used, but it is common enought that one must expect to see it and not through a hissy-fit at every such usage. Just like I've had to learn not to complain every time someone claims that GPLed (or even BSDed) software is not "proprietary", even though it really just means "not in the public domain" if we're using strict meanings. Not sure whether this is too late by now, but if_vge works as a module when loaded when the system is up, but just doesn't work when loaded from loader.conf. A simple rc.d emtry to load the module will solve this. Or compile it in statically. Now, the performance is awful, about half of what the nvidia chip on the NForce 250 GB does (which in turn was too much trouble elsewhere).
