Same idea for ports which use an even number for this. - For numbered ports (automake15 for example), it will only check for prefixes with 1.5. These definitions have to be entered manually, and can be found on http://edwin.adsl.barnet.com.au/~edwin/ports/restricted-ports.html. If a port incorrectly shows up as "a new version is available", let me know and I can add it to the list and/or make a filter for it. Please keep in mind that... - the check was only done in relation to the current version, so it is possible that the new version is not the newest version available on the master sites. - the full check of all ports takes more than two days, so it is possible that a new version is already commited. In that case, please ignore this email. - this is the only time you will get an alert about the above mentioned port versions on the below mentioned URLs. When the port version is updated, a check will again be done for it. When a new URL with a newer version is found, a check will be done for it again. - Not interested in further alerts? Send me the email address you are received it on for a full block, or the name of the port for a port-only block, or the name of a host for a host-only block. - An overview of all newly discovered distfiles can be found at http://edwin.adsl.barnet.com.au/~edwin/ports/. The page keeps unchanged until the next run. That doesn't make sense since that code doesn't have anything to do with MIME or gnome-vfs. However, there have been magic issues in the past with 64-bit platforms and MIME. I don't think that's the case here, but you might try surfing the mime-info module at http://cvs.freedesktop.org to see if there are any relevant fixes. Of course, GNOME 2.12 will be coming into the tree soon. You might want to see if that helps. The official release notes for GNOME 2.12 can be found at http://www.gnome.org/start/2.12/notes/en/. FreeBSD-specific documentation can be found at http://www.FreeBSD.org/gnome/. The documentation has been updated, but it will be a little while before the website rebuilds. Upgrading from GNOME 2.10 to 2.12 is tricky. You should NOT use portupgrade by itself to do this upgrade. Instead, download the gnome_upgrade script from http://www.marcuscom.com/downloads/gnome_upgrade212.sh. This script is a wrapper for portupgrade that contains additional logic to steer clear of some potential pitfalls with the upgrade. If you're used to gnome_upgrade from previous releases, a lot has changed in this release. You should run gnome_upgrade.sh (or gnome_upgrade212.sh) with the -h flag to get the new usage. In keeping with FreeBSD GNOME tradition, we held a splash screen contest to find a great FreeBSD-specific splash screen for our users. This release's winner is Dominique Goncalves whose winning splash screen was inspired by http://art.gnome.org/contests/2.12-splash/83. All of our submitters' work has been integrated into x11/gnomesession, and you can use Franz Kalmmer's great splashsetter (deskutils/splashsetter) to choose the splash screen you like best. Another important bit of news related to GNOME 2.12 is that we are no longer supporting this release on FreeBSD 4.X. You must be running FreeBSD 5.3 or higher to get GNOME 2.12 support.=20 Finally, the FreeBSD GNOME team would like to extend a special thanks to all of our testers, especially those that submitted patches: Matthew Luckie ade sajd on #freebsd-gnome Caelian on #freebsd-gnome mnag Yasuda Keisuke Mark Hobden Sergey Akifyev Andreas Kohn As always, consult our excellent site at http://www.FreeBSD.org/gnome/ if you need help. If you can't find the answer you're looking for there, come on over to #freebsd-gnome on FreeNode, or drop us an email at freebsd-gnome@FreeBSD.org. Enjoy GNOME 2.12 for FreeBSD. Perhaps we could add a mention of portsnap as well, now that it is in the base system. On another note, I've been using a few FreeBSD-specific gnome/gtk apps that improve the usability of the system and the integration with the desktop environment, like sysutils/thefish, sysutils/gtk-send-pr and even sysutils/bpm. The thing is, someone who hasn't been using FreeBSD for a long time, is unlikely to be aware of their existence. If they could be included in gnome2-power-tools or somesuch (gnome2-freebsd-tools, gnome2-system-tools?), chances are they could be spotted more easily. I suspect there might be others among the 13000 ports I haven't discovered yet and I personally have some plans for some new ones. It would be nice if there could be a metaport to host them all.
