None of the above patches fix the problem on 6.0. With ATA drives in the system, and DMA on, machine checks occur every few hours at best, every few minutes at worst. With the same drives attached by firewire, I haven't had a single machine check ever. Am I likely to be able to get FreeBSD 6.0 or other versions to run on this system? Best Regards, Scott Killen aka CoffeeMan salkillen@internode.on.net Kelso, New South Wales, Australia Google Earth lat -33.416027, lon 149.607101 nb. I also have 1 x Alphaserver 2100 4/233 with 2 x 233 Mhz Alpha 21264 processors, 512 Mb RAM, 2 x Storageworks 8x4.3Gb disk arrays. (which I have succeded in installing FreeBSD on, it flys :) and 1x AlphaServer 2100A 4/275 which I'm currently rebuilding ('twas short of some parts, which I'm currently ebaying for, and hope to finish next week)... It is my intention to intergrate these systems into the Local Community Wireless Network, as an example of what you can do with old cheap heavy iron and FreeBSD (I have so far spent less than AU$1000.00 on these systems and AU$350.00 to upgrade the 240v/30amp power supply to our house, "she who must be obeyed" was not looking forward to my powerbills, but hey, I don't have to run heaters in winter, I just duct the exhaust from the computer room round the house... :) From owner-freebsd-alpha@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Mar 11 11:52:19 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-alpha@FreeBSD.ORG Delivered-To: freebsd-alpha@FreeBSD.ORG Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9F0F616A41F for ; Sat, 11 Mar 2006 11:52:19 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from wb@freebie.xs4all.nl) Received: from smtp-vbr16.xs4all.nl (smtp-vbr16.xs4all.nl [194.109.24.36]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id F1F0043D58 for ; Sat, 11 Mar 2006 11:52:16 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from wb@freebie.xs4all.nl) Received: from freebie.xs4all.nl (freebie.xs4all.nl [213.84.32.253]) by smtp-vbr16.xs4all.nl (8.13.3/8.13.3) with ESMTP id k2BBqENK064603; Sat, 11 Mar 2006 12:52:15 +0100 (CET) (envelope-from wb@freebie.xs4all.nl) Received: from freebie.xs4all.nl (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freebie.xs4all.nl (8.13.4/8.13.3) with ESMTP id k2BBqDF0001154; Sat, 11 Mar 2006 12:52:13 +0100 (CET) (envelope-from wb@freebie.xs4all.nl) Received: (from wb@localhost) by freebie.xs4all.nl (8.13.4/8.13.1/Submit) id k2BBqDPa001153; Sat, 11 Mar 2006 12:52:13 +0100 (CET) (envelope-from wb) Date: Sat, 11 Mar 2006 12:52:12 +0100 From: Wilko Bulte To: Scott Message-ID: <20060311115212.GA1013@freebie.xs4all.nl> References: <000301c64490$f3a53df0$0600a8c0@idonz006> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <000301c64490$f3a53df0$0600a8c0@idonz006> X-OS: FreeBSD 6.0-STABLE User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.11 X-Virus-Scanned: by XS4ALL Virus Scanner Cc: freebsd-alpha@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: Will FreeBSD run on AlphaServer GS60E? Not recent versions of FreeBSD no. Lacking hardware for development and test the support for TurboLaser has been removed from the install kernel. Matt used to have access to TurboLasers over at NASA Ames, but that is no longer the case. The last time I tested on the GS60E I used to have at work > 1x AlphaServer 2100A 4/275 which I'm currently rebuilding ('twas short of > some parts, which I'm currently ebaying for, and hope to finish next > week)... 2100A is a tricky box, I do not know how well it runs these days. -- Wilko Bulte wilko@FreeBSD.org
