Note I always install via ports, and they are up to date. Anyway, here is how, you can try it from packages, ie pkg_add -r xxxxx - hopefully that works too, but if it doesnt then installing from ports definately does. [ Note, I just copies/pasted this from my notes, there may be later versions of these packages you can also use - but IIRC I had some problems with them ] install www/firefox install print/acroread7 install java/diablo-jdk15 install www/linux-flashplugin7 kldload linux echo 'none /compat/linux/proc linprocfs rw 0 0' >> /etc/fstab mount -a echo 'linux_enable="YES"' >> /etc/rc.conf nspluginwrapper -v -a -i Lastly, if you have installed some linux emulation then you might need to uninstall it or else the packages/ports system may complain about conflicting versions of emulation. First, the native ports do support the Java plugin on amd64. In fact, BSD is the only OS that I know of to support the plugin on amd64. But so far it's OK to me to use > the existing one. Seems that I have change my mind since linux-rpm.mk is too tied to rpm format and dealing with it. The file can't be (easily) used with an average linux port. I tried to convert to using linux-rpm.mk acroread7 port. I got a mess. :-( Well, what about new bsd.linux-apps.rpm? Understood. I still don't like the name, but I can live with it ;) I think there's too much stuff in there that has nothing to do with rpm-ness. And there's rpm-ness that is not necessarily specific to linux-ness (although for all practical purpose I doubt there will ever be a significant need to support rpm on a non-linux platform, so that's a minor quibble). As an intermediate step you =20 can have bsd.linux.mk separate and don't include anything in it. If it =20 is ready, we can move from including it explicitly to including it =20 implicitly by asking portmgr to test a patch which adds linux.mk to =20 port.mk, adds linux-XXX.mk to linux.mk and removes linux-XXX.mk from =20 port.mk. Not a big deal, I think.
