I have been experiencing this problem as well with emu10k1 since moving from 6.x to 7.x. I've been watching this PR and saw Yuri's latest message that an updated kernel allowed him to record again. I just updated my system to RELENG_7 as of yesterday however the issue still persists for me. I get the same errors when using rawrec/cp and Audacity does not record properly either. Audacity outputs lots of these to the terminal: PortAudio: read interrupted! PortAudio: read interrupted! PortAudio: read interrupted! Tricky - you can probably do something with the bmovl (bitmap overlay) filter (-vf bmovl) but it looks to be complicated to use[1]. It is of course easy enough to put a timestamp in the filename. There's always the low tech approach - put a calendar clock in the field of view of the camera. I was just writing another reply to the PR with some additional information (mainly the dmesg messages and a workaround) but I will answer in reply to you here instead. Yesterday I came across kern/118546 and tried the suggestion of setting "dev.pcm.0.rec.vchans" to 0 which appears to have fixed the recording problem for me here on emu10k1. When set to 1 (the default) it does not record properly. I tried to adapt the patch from snd_ich in kern/118546 and in the commit that fixed the problem for that driver to emu10k1 but I am not very experienced in C yet so I did not have much luck. So for now, "sysctl dev.pcm.0.rec.vchans=0" allows recording to work again for me on an Audigy 2 Platinum with emu10k1 but a proper fix would be great too. List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 20 Feb 2008 21:05:36 -0000 The second beta, v1.92 is available for testing. http://freebsd.ricin.com/kbtv2 In v1.92 several first-run bugs are fixed, a few other known bugs are gone, and saa tuning works again (freebsd6.3), including after a cold boot (at the small expense of having to use a rc script to ensure tuner init which apparently needs to be s l o w). Also found some bugs in the saa backend tuning code. And it now appears that switching from pwc backend back to TV backend (saa, cxm) that the ability to tune does *not* get lost anymore. I like that, a bug that just disappears :) Accidentally fixed I reckon. I may also have fixed the crashing pwc backend when the framesize is changed, but I haven't tested that yet. For beta3 I'm going to do some work on pwc (I'm also eyeing the luigi framework so that all the usb webcam support we have can be used but I think this will be after v2.0). Beta4 should bring in FreeBSD7 support, and after that -- and a beta5 if needed -- one or two RC's to test/fix amd64. Does tuning work at all despite the dmesg spam? In the good tradition of multimedia, the spam may be normal. I'm not sure if I can ever get rid of the spam frankly, maybe once I fold the iic stuff into FreeBSD7's interface, but I suspect there will still be spam. Cxm makes similar spam. I see its a Pinnacle PCTV Stereo card according to the vendor and product ID. Are you sure you set the tuner api type correctly in the port options? Do you know what tuner it is? Perhaps you may want to try kbtv2 instead, as that's the codebase I'm currently working on. Amd64 is not tested yet, that's all. You may be able to google it though, or try linuxtv.org. Even then, there are hardware products branded almost or entirely the same which actually have different chips or may even require completely different drivers. > > Perhaps you may want to try kbtv2 instead, as that's the codebase I'm > > currently working on. > > > > Amd64 is not tested yet, that's all. I'm not saying that will work instantly, but there we have an opportunity to try and fix things, whereas the kbtv1 code is not going to be updated anymore. (You may want to try kbtv-1.2.5 though if you want to persue kbtv1 further, this never got into ports but is available on my website, that's the last official kbtv1 release). I have the following soundcard in ISA slot on the system: sbc0: at port 0x220-0x22f,0x330-0x331,0x388-0x38b irq 5 drq 1,5 pnpid CTL00b2 on isa0 sbc0: [GIANT-LOCKED] sbc0: [ITHREAD] pcm0: on sbc0 I believe that the soundcard supports ISA Plug-n-Play. Everything works great. But recently I had an itch to go trough BIOS settings. I spotted one named "Plug-n-Play OS" and it was set to disabled. I thought "what the heck" FreeBSD is a Plug-n-Play OS for a long time, so flipped it to enabled. After that no joy, the soundcard stopped to work. It was detected as before, there is no difference in dmesg whatsoever, but it did not generate any interrupts (verified with vmstat -i). And any playback attempt resulted in zero sound and the following message on console: pcm0:virtual:dsp0.vp0: play interrupt timeout, channel dead So I disabled the option again and everything is fine. Practical conclusion: don't do it. Question of curiosity: what is it that BIOS can do with this card that our driver can not ? -- Andriy Gapon From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Feb 22 17:00:45 2008 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3248116A405 for ; Fri, 22 Feb 2008 17:00:45 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no) Received: from osl1smout1.broadpark.no (osl1smout1.broadpark.no [80.202.4.58]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id EBB2C13C46B for ; Fri, 22 Feb 2008 17:00:44 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no) MIME-version: 1.0 Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Received: from osl1sminn1.broadpark.no ([80.202.4.59]) by osl1smout1.broadpark.no (Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 6.3-3.01 (built Jul 12 2007; 32bit)) with ESMTP id <0JWN00GQNGKD6S00@osl1smout1.broadpark.no> for freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org; Fri, 22 Feb 2008 18:00:13 +0100 (CET) Received: from kg-work.kg4.no ([80.202.173.59]) by osl1sminn1.broadpark.no (Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 6.3-3.01 (built Jul 12 2007; 32bit)) with SMTP id <0JWN000P5GKCMPO1@osl1sminn1.broadpark.no> for freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org; Fri, 22 Feb 2008 18:00:13 +0100 (CET) Date: Fri, 22 Feb 2008 18:00:12 +0100 From: Torfinn Ingolfsen To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Message-id: <20080222180012.aeda99e5.torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no> In-reply-to: <47BEF597.9070503@icyb.net.ua> References: <47BEF597.9070503@icyb.net.ua> X-Mailer: Sylpheed 2.4.8 (GTK+ 2.12.8; i386-portbld-freebsd6.3) X-Face: "t9w2,-X@O^I`jVW\sonI3.,36KBLZE*AL[y9lL[PyFD*r_S:dIL9c[8Y>V42R0"!"yb_zN,f#%.[PYYNq; m"_0v; ~rUM2Yy!zmkh)3&U|u!=T(zyv,MHJv"nDH>OJ`t(@mil461d_B'Uo|'nMwlKe0Mv=kvV?Nh@>Hb<3s_z2jYgZhPb@?Wi^x1a~Hplz1.zH Subject: Re: sbc: isa plug-n-play X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 22 Feb 2008 17:00:45 -0000 On Fri, 22 Feb 2008 18:17:27 +0200 Andriy Gapon wrote: > Everything works great. Well, the bios (and acpi on systems that have it) set up devices by assigning them irqs, io, memory and whatnot, if I undertstand this correctly. My understanding is that FreeBSD uses this information to attach drivers to the devices. If the devices are not set up correctly, FreeBSD either might not find them or it can't use them correctly. -- Regards, Torfinn Ingolfsen From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Feb 22 23:04:27 2008 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 87C5216A401 for ; Fri, 22 Feb 2008 23:04:27 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from danny@ricin.com) Received: from smtpq2.tilbu1.nb.home.nl (smtpq2.tilbu1.nb.home.nl [213.51.146.201]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4FAF613C45D for ; Fri, 22 Feb 2008 23:04:27 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from danny@ricin.com) Received: from [213.51.146.188] (port=56457 helo=smtp3.tilbu1.nb.home.nl) by smtpq2.tilbu1.nb.home.nl with esmtp (Exim 4.60) (envelope-from ) id 1JSgwL-0007jX-Qv for freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org; Sat, 23 Feb 2008 00:04:25 +0100 Received: from cp1228410-a.dbsch1.nb.home.nl ([84.27.217.164]:53562 helo=desktop.homenet) by smtp3.tilbu1.nb.home.nl with smtp (Exim 4.60) (envelope-from ) id 1JSgwL-00058I-D5 for freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org; Sat, 23 Feb 2008 00:04:25 +0100 Received: by desktop.homenet (sSMTP sendmail emulation); Sat, 23 Feb 2008 00:03:35 +0100 From: "Danny Pansters" To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Date: Sat, 23 Feb 2008 00:03:35 +0100 User-Agent: KMail/1.9.7 References: <47BEF597.9070503@icyb.net.ua> <20080222180012.aeda99e5.torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no> In-Reply-To: <20080222180012.aeda99e5.torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no> X-Face: (Zs+'ncTcchkOX|~t6{?Iii=O!G#WEK!+OD0|-F=i%1pvP5V_Sz4PaJC8o)=?utf-8?q?MiSnH/JMJFy=0A=09oBN-My?=, v":S7, (=?utf-8?q?mmkPm=27U=7BMgT+eM=2EBd=5Cp/P!dr=5DhOTXqpse21O!=25Ct=60SE=2EOodq?= =?utf-8?q?=5Dry=5E=23kU=5E=0A=09-?=GT.[8D}i$6P>=" =?utf-8?q?=23=0A=09*J+4d=7E?= MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline Message-Id: <200802230003.35429.danny@ricin.com> X-Spam-Score: 0.0 (/) Subject: Re: sbc: isa plug-n-play X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 22 Feb 2008 23:04:27 -0000 On Friday 22 February 2008 18:00:12 Torfinn Ingolfsen wrote: > On Fri, 22 Feb 2008 18:17:27 +0200 > > Andriy Gapon wrote: > > Everything works great. Your card seems to have a microtune tuner mt2050 which is not yet supported by the saa backend. I'm looking into it. Unfortunately it differs from the other generic tuner APIs for saa in that tuning and init are to be handled differently (mt2032 is supported by bktr, so I can peek there). THis is an important tuner to have support for though for several reasons: - it's on a chip, not in a large chunky metal enclosure - hybrid, though this is not the scope of kbtv, this tuner is a natural fit for DTV and is widely used as such - I have an eyeTV hybrid USB stick here that I'd like to support and it has an mt2060 which is as far as I can see (for analog TV) exactly the same. With the cx88 driver from Linux, nee Marcus, nee Linux, nee Marcus, for the video only I can probably have a much easier time porting it than if I also have to use the linux tuning stuff. This is a longer term goal, not for v2.0. Of course, supporting that A/V decoder is another matter. But so is supporting an onboard mpeg encoder. They seem to use empia chipsets almost exclusively, the variant without onboard MPEG encoder is called the "blackbird" design IIRC. Of course, supporting that A/V decoder is > another matter. But so is supporting an onboard mpeg encoder. Adding: And a ATSC or DVB-n dedicated chip that makes the output be a transport stream. So in this case that is similar to the encoder step that you have with, e.g. a PVR 150. It may be that those chips underperform, I don't know. For analog though, it will probably work fine (the existing kbtv backends use very little CPU if using accelerated HW, and there's not any remarkable difference between the bktr and saa backend viewers that use the conventional "mmap YUV pixels" and the cxm (PVR) backend which is just a mpeg2 elementary stream player, 99% equal to ffplay. It creams mplayer though ;-P Neither need much CPU on FreeBSD, even on non-accelarated platforms such as amd64 I'd still guess (based on kbtv1 testing about a year ago), that under KDE and normal usage WCPU for kbtv (1 or 2) will be ~20% and that's way less than say, amarok. Or any TV app for windows vista I would venture to guess. > > They seem to use empia chipsets almost exclusively, the variant without > onboard MPEG encoder is called the "blackbird" design IIRC. > > Dan Cheers, Dan From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Feb 23 01:21:33 2008 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1122816A400 for ; Sat, 23 Feb 2008 01:21:33 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from danny@ricin.com) Received: from smtpq2.groni1.gr.home.nl (smtpq2.groni1.gr.home.nl [213.51.130.201]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9DC8213C43E for ; Sat, 23 Feb 2008 01:21:32 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from danny@ricin.com) Received: from [213.51.130.189] (port=41209 helo=smtp2.groni1.gr.home.nl) by smtpq2.groni1.gr.home.nl with esmtp (Exim 4.60) (envelope-from ) id 1JSj51-00059h-Gn for freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org; Sat, 23 Feb 2008 02:21:31 +0100 Received: from cp1228410-a.dbsch1.nb.home.nl ([84.27.217.164]:56273 helo=desktop.homenet) by smtp2.groni1.gr.home.nl with smtp (Exim 4.60) (envelope-from ) id 1JSj50-0005cB-Pf for freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org; Sat, 23 Feb 2008 02:21:31 +0100 Received: by desktop.homenet (sSMTP sendmail emulation); Sat, 23 Feb 2008 02:20:40 +0100 From: "Danny Pansters" To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Date: Sat, 23 Feb 2008 02:20:40 +0100 User-Agent: KMail/1.9.7 References: <200802230046.AAA06421@sopwith.solgatos.com> <200802230156.29551.danny@ricin.com> <200802230210.06590.danny@ricin.com> In-Reply-To: <200802230210.06590.danny@ricin.com> X-Face: (Zs+'ncTcchkOX|~t6{?Iii=O!G#WEK!+OD0|-F=i%1pvP5V_Sz4PaJC8o)=?utf-8?q?MiSnH/JMJFy=0A=09oBN-My?=, v":S7, (=?utf-8?q?mmkPm=27U=7BMgT+eM=2EBd=5Cp/P!dr=5DhOTXqpse21O!=25Ct=60SE=2EOodq?= =?utf-8?q?=5Dry=5E=23kU=5E=0A=09-?=GT.[8D}i$6P>=" =?utf-8?q?=23=0A=09*J+4d=7E?= MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline Message-Id: <200802230220.40947.danny@ricin.com> X-Spam-Score: 0.0 (/) Subject: Re: Kbtv2 beta2 uploaded X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 23 Feb 2008 01:21:33 -0000 Alright, one final comment: it's quite possible that USB (even USB2) is so slow that it kills everything. No, I mean the reception performance, not mpeg features. The "big" metal cans supposedly have better RF filtering. Keeping the undesired frequencies out is important.
