Wow this is a pretty big update. Are you sure this is the way to go with the original multimedia/xbmc port? I would prefer sticking to the upstream version with multimedia/xbmc and have such an custom branch in another port that also reflects this from the name. Yeah, it basically adds support for accessing pvr software like vdr (via external plugins), mythtv, tvheadend (tvheadend hasn't been ported yet but can still be accessed from a linux box over the network.) So you get things like a main menu entry called `Live TV', etc. (And switching channels btw is faster than with say vdr-sxfe too, especially for hd channels.) Thanks for explaing. > Oh and I'm still looking for mythtv testers... :) Well, will it work with a really old MythTV backend? I still run MythTV 0.20 (0.20.20060828-3, schema version 1158) on a FreeBSD 6.4 machine (because I haven't been able to make newer versions of MythTV work with my PVR-500 tuner card). Is it as simple as adding your patch to multimedia/xbmc? There is some imcomplete documentation at the xbmc wiki: http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=HOW-TO:Watch_TV_in_XBMC And some general xbmc documentation: http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=XBMC_Online_Manual I think basically after installing xbmc-pvr you can start it, go into system -> settings -> add-ons -> installed add-ons -> pvr clients, select mythtv pvr client, go into Configure there, put in your mythtv backend ip etc, and then set `Enabled.' After that go in system -> settings -> live tv -> general, and set `Enabled' there too. I think then if all goes well it should import your channels, epg etc and after is finished you can try `Live TV' in the main menu. (It's possible you have to restart xbmc once in between there, IIRC that happened to me at least once...) You enter/leave the menu with Tab, go back one step with Backspace, select with Return, and navigate using the arrow keys. To exit xbmc hit `s' (for shutdown) and then select `Exit', a list of keys is here: http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Global_Keyboard If you have a recent enough nvidia gfx card that knows vdpau (a list is here: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/VDPAU and you can also use the multimedia/vdpauinfo port to check), you can (re-)build ffmpeg and xbmc pvr with the VDPAU knobs enabled and then enable vdpau under system -> settings -> video -> playback for on-gpu video decoding, i.e. to reduce main cpu load. Good luck! :) Juergen From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Dec 9 00:54:56 2011 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B2832106566B for ; Fri, 9 Dec 2011 00:54:56 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from baldur@foo.is) Received: from gremlin.foo.is (gremlin.foo.is [194.105.250.10]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 76C488FC14 for ; Fri, 9 Dec 2011 00:54:56 +0000 (UTC) Received: by gremlin.foo.is (Postfix, from userid 1000) id 22629DA848; Fri, 9 Dec 2011 00:36:07 +0000 (GMT) Date: Fri, 9 Dec 2011 00:36:07 +0000 From: Baldur Gislason To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Message-ID: <20111209003606.GT74448@gremlin.foo.is> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.18 (2008-05-17) Subject: USB sound driver mixer oddities X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 09 Dec 2011 00:54:56 -0000 I was running FreeBSD 7 for i386 on my PC and this year I upgraded to 8.2-STABLE on amd64. I use a Griffin iMic USB sound adapter because the on-board audio in this Dell is ridiculously noisy. After the upgrade, I can no longer mute the sound output, when I set the master volume and PCM volume both to zero and/or select mute in the mixer, the sound just gets attenuated to a low level but not muted. I believe this to be a change in how the mixer works in the usound driver, if not the sound system. Is anyone else experiencing this behaviour? In many cases these ports are failing to compile on some subset of the FreeBSD build environments. The most common problem is that recent versions of -CURRENT include gcc4.2, which is much stricter than older versions. The next most common problem is that compiles succeed on the i386 architecture (e.g. the common Intel PC), but fail on one or more of the other architectures due to assumptions about things such as size of various types, byte-alignment issues, and so forth. In occasional cases we see that the same port may have different errors in different build environments. The script that runs on the build cluster uses heuristics to try to 'guess' the error type to help you isolate problems, but it is only a rough guide. One more note: on occasion, there are transient build errors seen on the build farm. Unfortunately, there is not yet any way for this algorithm to tell the difference (humans are much, much better at this kind of thing.) The errors are listed below. In the case where the same problem exists on more than one build environment, the URL points to the latest errorlog for that type. (By 'build environment' here we mean 'combination of 7.x/8.x/9.x/-current with target architecture'.) (Note: the dates are included to help you to gauge whether or not the error still applies to the latest version. The program that generates this report is not yet able to determine this automatically.) portname: audio/gstreamer-plugins-flite broken because: Doesn't work due to link problem in audio/flite build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=audio&portname=gstreamer-plugins-flite If these errors are ones that you are already aware of, please accept our apologies and ignore this message. On the other hand, if you no longer wish to maintain this port (or ports), please reply with a message stating that, and accept our thanks for your efforts in the past. Every effort has been made to make sure that these error reports really do correspond to a port that you maintain. However, due to the fact that this is an automated process, it may indeed generate false matches. If one of these errors fits that description, please forward this email to the author of this software, Mark Linimon , so that he can attempt to fix the problem in the future. Thanks for your efforts to help improve FreeBSD. I tried exiting xbmc too, nope - the interesting menu items (like "configure") on MythTV PVR client page is still inactive. End of first test. :) -- Torfinn From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Dec 10 17:57:03 2011 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id DC7A1106564A for ; Sat, 10 Dec 2011 17:57:03 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from nox@jelal.kn-bremen.de) Received: from smtp.kn-bremen.de (gelbbaer.kn-bremen.de [78.46.108.116]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9CA5A8FC08 for ; Sat, 10 Dec 2011 17:57:03 +0000 (UTC) Received: by smtp.kn-bremen.de (Postfix, from userid 10) id 7BB381E000F9; Sat, 10 Dec 2011 18:57:02 +0100 (CET) Received: from triton8.kn-bremen.de (noident@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by triton8.kn-bremen.de (8.14.4/8.14.4) with ESMTP id pBAHtln7078267 for ; Sat, 10 Dec 2011 18:55:47 +0100 (CET) (envelope-from nox@triton8.kn-bremen.de) Received: (from nox@localhost) by triton8.kn-bremen.de (8.14.4/8.14.3/Submit) id pBAHtllB078266 for freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.org; Sat, 10 Dec 2011 18:55:47 +0100 (CET) (envelope-from nox) From: Juergen Lock Date: Sat, 10 Dec 2011 18:55:47 +0100 To: freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.org Message-ID: <20111210175547.GA78073@triton8.kn-bremen.de> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.21 (2010-09-15) Cc: Subject: Apologies to those that tried vdr and only got a crash... I just committed a fix for vdr crashing at first start when there was no %%PREFIX%%/etc/vdr/setup.conf yet, I never noticed this before because I only tested the last updates with my exiting installation that of course already had a setup.conf... So if you were affected by that crash you can now update your portstree and try again. (Btw I also updated the xineliboutput plugin to a more recent snapshot and fixed random vdr-sxfe xvdr+tcp:// restart failures when the server was starting streaming `too fast'.) And about updating the other vdr ports to more recent versions, I shall look at that after the end of the ports feature freeze. Thanx, :) Juergen From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Dec 10 19:18:56 2011 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 69DF21065672; Sat, 10 Dec 2011 19:18:56 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from nox@jelal.kn-bremen.de) Received: from smtp.kn-bremen.de (gelbbaer.kn-bremen.de [78.46.108.116]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 24DB78FC17; Sat, 10 Dec 2011 19:18:55 +0000 (UTC) Received: by smtp.kn-bremen.de (Postfix, from userid 10) id E94A11E0022E; Sat, 10 Dec 2011 20:18:53 +0100 (CET) Received: from triton8.kn-bremen.de (noident@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by triton8.kn-bremen.de (8.14.4/8.14.4) with ESMTP id pBAJH8Dw080372; Sat, 10 Dec 2011 20:17:08 +0100 (CET) (envelope-from nox@triton8.kn-bremen.de) Received: (from nox@localhost) by triton8.kn-bremen.de (8.14.4/8.14.3/Submit) id pBAJH7Ne080371; Sat, 10 Dec 2011 20:17:07 +0100 (CET) (envelope-from nox) Date: Sat, 10 Dec 2011 20:17:07 +0100 (CET) From: Juergen Lock Message-Id: <201112101917.pBAJH7Ne080371@triton8.kn-bremen.de> To: torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no X-Newsgroups: local.list.freebsd.multimedia In-Reply-To: <20111210014200.6edcb333.torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no> References: <20111119113719.GA20783@triton8.kn-bremen.de> <201112062039.pB6Kdlfh027793@triton8.kn-bremen.de> <201112071735.pB7HZYwO056592@triton8.kn-bremen.de> Organization: Cc: freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.org, decke@FreeBSD.org Subject: Re: xbmc pvr in ports - mythtv addon X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 10 Dec 2011 19:18:56 -0000 In article <20111210014200.6edcb333.torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no> you write: >Well, I patched xbmc with th 056 patch, and it compiled and installed fine. > >On Wed, 07 Dec 2011 18:35:34 +0100 (CET) >Juergen Lock wrote: > >> I think basically after installing xbmc-pvr you can start it, go into >> system -> settings -> add-ons -> installed add-ons -> pvr clients, >> select mythtv pvr client, go into Configure there, put in your >> mythtv backend ip etc, and then set `Enabled.' > >The only active menu choices in the configure page for the MythTV PVR client is "enable" and "change log". >I tried enabling it, exiting that menu and going back in again. There is a new one using libcmyth mentioned here: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?t=110694 only the git repo linked, https://github.com/tsp/xbmc is a fork of the entire opdenkamp xbmc pvr, so I guess I'll leave porting that to someone that actually uses mythtv i.e. not me... Sorry, :( Juergen
