I am not going to be using any of the FreeBSD Makefile infrastructure for running tests, so I don't need that info. I am going to be migrating some existing tests into a form that can be run under kyua, so that I can do: "kyua report-junit". In future, where is the central source for kyua documentation going to live? I see docs are scattered across: http://wiki.netbsd.org/kyua/ https://wiki.freebsd.org/TestingFreeBSD https://wiki.freebsd.org/TestSuite https://github.com/jmmv/kyua/wiki It doesn't matter to me where the central source for kyua documentation lives, but it is nice if a newcomer does a web search for "kyua" and within a few clicks lands on tutorials and useful documentation. The docs that are there are good, but it is hard to navigate to them from a web search. -- Craig From owner-freebsd-testing@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Aug 4 19:02:04 2014 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-testing@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [8.8.178.115]) (using TLSv1 with cipher ADH-AES256-SHA (256/256 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 72D417B2; Mon, 4 Aug 2014 19:02:04 +0000 (UTC) Received: from mail-lb0-x229.google.com (mail-lb0-x229.google.com [IPv6:2a00:1450:4010:c04::229]) (using TLSv1 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-RC4-SHA (128/128 bits)) (Client CN "smtp.gmail.com", Issuer "Google Internet Authority G2" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id BC6DF2B19; Mon, 4 Aug 2014 19:02:03 +0000 (UTC) Received: by mail-lb0-f169.google.com with SMTP id s7so5820452lbd.28 for ; Mon, 04 Aug 2014 12:02:01 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=20120113; h=mime-version:sender:in-reply-to:references:date:message-id:subject :from:to:cc:content-type; bh=AI/Cm2UZ+/sFhzp+uy9ZgVRfw/pblKHtvZDD3TLGsus=; b=zQnl2dyYUpjWslaYiuvr8aP7Lyzg+IwvyZKEUgK7pWHF1BT4YWI2lC4qmVexJDxsr/ T9wdL099Y+3OlITERvqenDm5CmTdWEGY4OOIHn7p/BgJfJ5b4uKpwHtILvFpSKRpfmsZ Pr/WYOnCy2Lw4Pl1Et67WBT3U4e9gQP4+ZvgSYvXt1SOTQh+Ln12yYaovjoBTwcrkODC 2aiwtyRWAhyGD1p1oRWs8RO0vGl0t1VRJf+tl8aavtUe9jTR4qsgXXHjxkor8J6u5T3Z ZuLHMf12lJXXbL9FlBoVU30Y66GYEwGPnBNm3PqnhxdzbBWSdpUbcuxI1yMMFfjoJHAG xn2A== MIME-Version: 1.0 X-Received: by 10.152.19.65 with SMTP id c1mr4494925lae.88.1407178921510; Mon, 04 Aug 2014 12:02:01 -0700 (PDT) Sender: crodr001@gmail.com Received: by 10.112.197.107 with HTTP; Mon, 4 Aug 2014 12:02:01 -0700 (PDT) In-Reply-To: References: Date: Mon, 4 Aug 2014 12:02:01 -0700 X-Google-Sender-Auth: 7eNhUNUiQgwzZtKzP40kNfxCjRs Message-ID: Subject: Re: Best place to learn how to write tests which work under kyua? Hi Craig! That's a good question. I just looked and it doesn't seem like GitHub natively renders *roff, but that would be a nice feature to have; I just opened https://github.com/github/markup/issues/342 to track the feature request. Would it be a good idea to check in the rendered documentation as part of Travis CI to a doc tree under GitHub? That seems to be what some other projects do. The authoritative documentation is in the manual pages, but that's more of a reference manual than an introduction. Introductory text and assorted articles should either be in the project's wiki or linked from it. > I see docs are scattered across: > > > http://wiki.netbsd.org/kyua/ > https://wiki.freebsd.org/TestingFreeBSD > https://wiki.freebsd.org/TestSuite > https://github.com/jmmv/kyua/wiki I have started collecting a list in the wiki, including the links you provided and others. I have some plans that will make things simpler and in turn will make the process of documentation easier, but details on those will come once I have cut a new release (hopefully this week). I'm also long overdue in writing a from-scratch tutorial, which is much necessary. Ah, nice! I like Garrett's idea of generating up-to-date rendered pages from Travis, but in the meantime we can take advantage of the manned.org service (which has the benefit of "only" rendering the pages from the last formal release). I have added links to these pages in the wiki. Is there a way to make the kyua project wiki page on github appear near the top search results when doing a web search of "kyua"? If you have control of the other web page content, over time, I would recommend deleting the other content and replacing with "Content moved to http://github.com/jmmv/kyua/wiki". -- Craig
