I wrote a small test program that just tries to go into vm86 mode, but running it causes a panic. I now have my kernel under RCS control, but I think it's too late :(. I haven't been able to figure out what's going on, and Mike has been busy. Anyway, that's the status -- we're dazed and confused. I'm sorry, folks. Sean. Oh. =) Ability to use "X mode" as it is called in DOS,which is created by programming the VGA registers directly, thereby creating "nonstandard modes" (i.e. not supported by BIOS) was more than I expected for this early in the project.
