I/O transactions to/from the disk will consume (much) less CPU time. This is a win if you have more than one process active and not disk-bound (eg. a world build using -pipe, X server, etc.) Disk throughput is also higher on P6 and above because they do PIO poorly. -- \\ Sometimes you're ahead, \\ Mike Smith \\ sometimes you're behind. \\ mike@smith.net.au \\ The race is long, and in the \\ msmith@freebsd.org \\ end it's only with yourself. \\ msmith@cdrom.com To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-hardware" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-hardware Mon Aug 24 23:11:43 1998 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id XAA06883 for freebsd-hardware-outgoing; Mon, 24 Aug 1998 23:11:43 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from owl.org (owl.org [198.206.215.91]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id XAA06870 for ; Mon, 24 Aug 1998 23:11:39 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from cgull@owl.org) Received: (from cgull@localhost) by owl.org (8.8.8/8.8.8/cgull) id CAA10317; Tue, 25 Aug 1998 02:10:27 -0400 (EDT) (envelope-from cgull) Message-ID: <19980825021026.12093@owl.org> Date: Tue, 25 Aug 1998 02:10:26 -0400 From: john hood To: Joe Gleason Cc: freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: UDMA Support References: <00f001bdcde3$7e14bb00$0171a1ce@bug.tasam.com> <199808221929.TAA20855@dingo.cdrom.com> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii X-Mailer: Mutt 0.89.1 In-Reply-To: <199808221929.TAA20855@dingo.cdrom.com>; from Mike Smith on Sat, Aug 22, 1998 at 07:29:03PM +0000 Sender: owner-freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org On Sat, Aug 22, 1998 at 07:29:03PM +0000, Mike Smith wrote: > > Does FreeBSD have Ultra DMA support or will it have it? > > FreeBSD 3.0 supports IDE DMA. Each bus has an assortment of disk & tape devices, but the narrow bus has only narrow devices, and the wide bus has only wide devices. (Well, actually, the DLT drive & changer is a single external package, with a pair of 68-pin wide SCSI connectors, but it's my understanding that the changer is actually a narrow device.) Anyway, in each case, there are devices on the bus inside the case and devices on the bus external to the case, and I've turned off all termination on the host adapters. I'm trying to use amanda to perform backups, using the (recently- acquired) DLT drive & changer, and sufficiently often that it's Really Annoying, I see SCSI bus timeouts & resets. I'll append an example set of entries after my .sig (to avoid disrupting the flow of my deathless prose :-). And I'll precede it with an excerpt from /var/run/dmesg.boot. But the thing I was *just* noticing is that in many (though not all) cases, the reported problems with the wide (ahc1) adapter are preceded by reported problems with sd0 (ahc0:0:0) -- the drive that contains the bulk of the OS... and which just happens to be a Quantum Empire 1080S. Does it make sense to others that perhaps that Quantum Empire might be triggering the vast bulk of the rest of this unpleasantness? (I confess to a certain bias, as I have one at home that was on my Sun 3/60 for a while; I returned home after being out of town for a couple of weeks, only to find that there had been a power outage in my absence, and the drive had succumbed to the "stickation" problem for the last time.) The machines are connected to a Cisco Catalyst 2916 switch. Some NFS operations, on large (200+ megabyte) files or files that are being constantly updated will simply hang; ps shows them as being in disk wait state. They never recover and won't die. Running tail, grep, or sz on one of these files will reproduce the problem almost every time. A 2.2.6 NFS client reading files from a BSDI 2.1 NFS server also reproduces the problem. I have since tried a Catalyst 2924 (which has silghtly different hardware compared to the 2916), a Catalyst 2926 (which is similar to a Catalyst 5000 and entirely different from the other mid-range Catalyst switches), and an SMC dumb 10/100 hub. In any of these cases, the problem arises. 100 megabit full or half duplex, 10 megabit full or half duplex, same thing. When running the same machines with a 10 megabit dumb hub or a 10 megabit SMC switch, this problem doesn't exist. There was some discussion about Cisco switches being suspect, but the fact that the problem persists with a dumb hub that is running at 100 megabits makes me think something weird is going on with FreeBSD, and not the hardware. That's odd - I thought it supported UDMA. Perhaps you meant -stable? My reading of the file /sys/pci/ide_pci.c suggests that 3.0 does support UDMA for PCI-IDE chips. I made some additions to it to support the newer CMD646U2 PCI-UIDE chip but they haven't made it into the source tree yet (I don't know who the new owner of this code is). The individual chip dmainit routines are supposed to turn on udma mode if possible. It doesn't look like the plain ISA /sys/i386/isa/wd.c driver turns on UDMA. If you have a newer motherboard with PCI-based IDE controller the code should turn on UDMA mode for those drives that support it, unless I've missed something. (The throughput on my UDMA Quantum on the CMD646U2 card in my 486 test machine seems to suggest that it is running in UDMA mode. I have dumped various registers etc when I was debugging my driver mods that claimed it was in UDMA mode.) -- Parag To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-hardware" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-hardware Tue Aug 25 17:21:04 1998 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id RAA07484 for freebsd-hardware-outgoing; Tue, 25 Aug 1998 17:21:04 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from dingo.cdrom.com (ppp-d3.dialup.hilink.com.au [203.2.144.13]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id RAA07477 for ; Tue, 25 Aug 1998 17:20:58 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from mike@dingo.cdrom.com) Received: from dingo.cdrom.com (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by dingo.cdrom.com (8.9.1/8.8.8) with ESMTP id RAA00891; Tue, 25 Aug 1998 17:17:45 GMT (envelope-from mike@dingo.cdrom.com) Message-Id: <199808251717.RAA00891@dingo.cdrom.com> X-Mailer: exmh version 2.0.2 2/24/98 To: Scott Drassinower cc: freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: Intel 100+ troubles In-reply-to: Your message of "Tue, 25 Aug 1998 15:44:46 -0400." There have been some serious NFS-related fixes subsequent to 2.2.6; it is quite possible that you're seeing the bugs that these addressed rather than a hardware problem. It is useful to add the 'l' flag to ps(1) and see what the hung processes have in their WCHAN field, as this gives more detail than just "disk wait". If you have an opportunity, you might want to build a 2.2.7 kernel and see if you can reproduce the problems. If you don't have the resources to do this in-house, you should be able to ask on the freebsd-stable list for someone to generate a -stable kernel for you to try. -- \\ Sometimes you're ahead, \\ Mike Smith \\ sometimes you're behind. \\ mike@smith.net.au \\ The race is long, and in the \\ msmith@freebsd.org \\ end it's only with yourself. \\ msmith@cdrom.com To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-hardware" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-hardware Tue Aug 25 17:34:24 1998 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id RAA09360 for freebsd-hardware-outgoing; Tue, 25 Aug 1998 17:34:24 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from russian-caravan.cloud9.net (russian-caravan.cloud9.net [168.100.1.4]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id RAA09010 for ; Tue, 25 Aug 1998 17:32:11 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from scottd@cloud9.net) Received: from earl-grey.cloud9.net (IDENT:He0KFf5pb2SG8W+WbHgMZTdG5+OMAmCg@earl-grey.cloud9.net [168.100.1.1]) by russian-caravan.cloud9.net (8.9.1a/8.9.0/rc-19980602) with SMTP id UAA15373; Tue, 25 Aug 1998 20:28:20 -0400 (EDT) Date: Tue, 25 Aug 1998 20:28:21 -0400 (EDT) From: Scott Drassinower To: Mike Smith cc: freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: Intel 100+ troubles In-Reply-To: <199808251717.RAA00891@dingo.cdrom.com> Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Sender: owner-freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org On Tue, 25 Aug 1998, Mike Smith wrote: > There have been some serious NFS-related fixes subsequent to 2.2.6; it > is quite possible that you're seeing the bugs that these addressed > rather than a hardware problem. Will I need a 2.2.7 system to build a 2.2.7 kernel? It's just really weird that the problem only seems to happen at 100 megabits. Perhaps you meant -stable? Urrgh, I should know better, I wrote it, after all :) What I really should have said is that the error-checking features of UDMA (which are somewhat important) aren't supported properly. The timing setup and enabling of UDMA is supported. So UDMA is partly supported. -stable hasn't got any DMA support, and nobody's hurrying to implement it, though I keep telling myself I'll spend the while doing the backport sometime... Soren's more or less in charge of the ATA/ATAPI code. I wrote the ATA DMA code, so people ask me about it. I've submitted the code you sent me, along with a bunch of other updates, to Soren, who has been...sitting on it :) Soon, soon. --jh -- Mr. Belliveau said, "the difference was the wise, John Hood, cgull intelligent look on the face of the cow." One is marked IDE/VLB, the other IDE/ISA. I've been running wd0 and wcd0 using IDE/ISA. I'm trying to add a new disk to this system. I tried adding wdc1 to the kernel, but that just makes things freeze. Then I had a thought: what about making wd1 refer to wdco drive 2? Well, I can report that this seems to succeed. I have a wd1 appearing in dmesg. And running fdisk from within /stand/sysinstall gives me both wd0 and wd1. However, both wd1 and wd0 appear to be the same physical disk as the properties reported within dmesg are those of the 5G disk and nothing resembling the 330M disk appears. Perhaps I should just abandon my 330M.... :( Van anyone point me in the right direction? Should I be added a new IDE controller or just a disk to my kernel? Today I found that ThinkPad hang if 'apmconf -e' running and I try to remove 3C589D. So I disabled running 'apmconf -e' and pccardd at boot time. I think *this* may have something to do with the interaction between APM and your hardware; it seems to me that you might be getting an APM event related to the card removal. If you're able to pursue these issues a little further, I'd be interested to know if you turn anything up. Needless to say, I use APM and plug/remove cards on a regular basis (including a 3c589), so I know it's _supposed_ to work. -- \\ Sometimes you're ahead, \\ Mike Smith \\ sometimes you're behind. \\ mike@smith.net.au \\ The race is long, and in the \\ msmith@freebsd.org \\ end it's only with yourself. \\ msmith@cdrom.com To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-hardware" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-hardware Thu Aug 27 18:16:34 1998 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id SAA15007 for freebsd-hardware-outgoing; Thu, 27 Aug 1998 18:16:34 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from control.colossus.dyn.ml.org (pm6-42.sba1.avtel.net [207.71.222.92]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id SAA14944 for ; Thu, 27 Aug 1998 18:16:18 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from dburr@colossus.dyn.ml.org) Received: (from dburr@localhost) by control.colossus.dyn.ml.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id SAA27719; Thu, 27 Aug 1998 18:14:05 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from dburr) Message-ID: X-Mailer: XFMail 1.3 [p0] on FreeBSD X-Priority: 3 (Normal) Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit MIME-Version: 1.0 In-Reply-To: Date: Thu, 27 Aug 1998 18:13:59 -0700 (PDT) Organization: Computer Help From: Donald Burr To: The Classiest Man Alive Subject: RE: CD-R(W)s Cc: freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG Sender: owner-freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org My secret spy satellite informs me that on 27-Aug-98, The Classiest Man Alive wrote: > It's time to replace my old CD-ROM and I'm considering moving to a CD-R > or > a CD-RW. I purchased a Sony CD-R CDU926S at a computer show earlier this year for just under $300 (that's including tax and everything). (By now, the price will probably have come down significantly on these) This is a 6x read/2x write SCSI device, and it works like a charm. I've burned well over a hundred CD's with it, and the only failures I've had are when I screwed up something myself. I am quite happy with this unit, and would gladly buy the same one if I needed to buy a new CD-R right now. --- Donald Burr *NEW EMAIL ADDRESS!* | PGP: Your WWW HomePage: http://DonaldBurr.base.org/ ICQ#16997506 | right to Address: P.O. Yep, you need either mkhybrid (I prefer this because it does Joliet FS) or mkisofs, these programs create the CD filesystem. You also need cdrecord or cdwrite which actually talk to the CD-R and put the CD FS image on them. I use cdrecord. > Does they function normally as CD-ROM replacements or are there any > special considerations? They work find as CD-ROM's but are usually slower than a normal CD (ie 8x). > Does anybody have any good/bad experiences with a particular manufacturer > or model? I have used a Ricoh-6200 (nice drive, and does RW disks, but only a 2x write), a Sony CDU-948S (I didn't like them, I killed 3 of them in a week - I don't know how..), and a Compro CW-7502 (nice drive, only does CD-R's but is 4x write, and I haven't had any problems) Also note that some software like tosha or cdda2wav might be useful if you want to turn your CD collection into mpegs (CD-R's are great for this because they are much more precise than a normal drive). Also, 8hz-mp3 is a good free mp3 encoder. --------------------------------------------------------------------- |Daniel O'Connor software and network engineer for Genesis Software | |http://www.gsoft.com.au | |The nice thing about standards is that there are so many of them to| |choose from. -- Andrew Tanenbaum | --------------------------------------------------------------------- To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-hardware" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-hardware Thu Aug 27 22:17:14 1998 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id WAA23884 for freebsd-hardware-outgoing; Thu, 27 Aug 1998 22:17:14 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from ns.online.samara.ru (SamaraOnline.customers.samara.net [195.128.128.206]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id WAA23862 for ; Thu, 27 Aug 1998 22:16:52 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from igor@ns.online.samara.ru) Received: (from igor@localhost) by ns.online.samara.ru (8.8.8/8.8.5) id KAA18712 for freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org; Fri, 28 Aug 1998 10:15:21 GMT To: freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG Message-ID: Organization: Cronyx Ltd. Needless to say, I use APM > and plug/remove cards on a regular basis (including a 3c589), so I know > it's _supposed_ to work. Yes, it's seems to me too that problem is mainly in interaction between APM and PC Card. So: 1. ThinkPad hangs when I remove 3C589D while APM enabled (apmconf -e) 2. If APM disabled ThinkPad doesn't hang up when I remove 3c589D for the first time. (in case when pccardd doesn't run anything except echo). 3. ThinkPad hangs up when I try to remove 3C589D for the second time. 4. ThinkPad doesn't hangs up when I try to remove 3c589D after I'd ran 'ifconfig ep0 inet ...', 'ifconfig ep0 delete'. 5. ThinkPad hangs up when I try to remove 3c589D after I'd ran 'ifconfig ep0 inet ...', ping, 'ifconfig ep0 delete' - after some network activity. 6. When I go to suspend mode, kernel unload ep0, return irq, disable slot. After resume kernel insert card, and load ep0. 7. Keys that switch CPU to SMM mode works while hang ups. I'll to look two modem cards. And I'll try to install PAO. PAO's pccardc allows to power off card before removing, may be it helps. with best regards, Igor Sysoev To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-hardware" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-hardware Fri Aug 28 02:40:32 1998 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id CAA25104 for freebsd-hardware-outgoing; Fri, 28 Aug 1998 02:40:32 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from vortex.misterweb.com (vortex.misterweb.com [206.234.38.72]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id CAA25098 for ; Fri, 28 Aug 1998 02:40:30 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from zaph0d@misterweb.com) Received: from localhost (zaph0d@localhost) by vortex.misterweb.com (8.9.0/8.9.0) with SMTP id FAA22090 for ; Thu, 27 Aug 1998 05:41:31 -0500 (EST) Date: Thu, 27 Aug 1998 05:41:30 -0500 (EST) From: misterweb To: freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: AHA2940/Compaq 1 gig drive related question Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Sender: owner-freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Currently i'm running FreeBSD 2.2.7, and it works great. Except I have to be there to boot it. The reason for that is, whenever it comes up, instead of going to the correct drive to get the kernel (at the boot: prompt), I have to press F5, then F1, to get to a prompt. THen it wants to goto ID 1 to boot. I want it to goto ID 0. I have configured everything I have found, installed 3 seperate types of FreeBSD, and various partition configurations, with no avail. As well as recompileing the kernel, makeing sure the 'root on sd0' etc etc is all setup correctly. The closest solution I can find listed anywhere, is how the partitioning is done with the sectors. I've tried many different partition configs, with the same result. Can I atleast, at the minimum, create a boot-floppy to auto-load the correct kernel? Or is there prehaps a place I can go to force the bootloader to look on a certain drive to boot? It's just sd0a/kernel, so it should be finding it by default. Thanks, and I apprechiate any help someone could provide.. jpm To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-hardware" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-hardware Fri Aug 28 09:01:00 1998 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id JAA06543 for freebsd-hardware-outgoing; Fri, 28 Aug 1998 09:01:00 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from ns.mt.sri.com (sri-gw.MT.net [206.127.105.141]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id JAA06537 for ; Fri, 28 Aug 1998 09:00:57 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from nate@mt.sri.com) Received: from mt.sri.com (rocky.mt.sri.com [206.127.76.100]) by ns.mt.sri.com (8.8.8/8.8.8) with SMTP id JAA18519; Fri, 28 Aug 1998 09:59:03 -0600 (MDT) (envelope-from nate@rocky.mt.sri.com) Received: by mt.sri.com (SMI-8.6/SMI-SVR4) id JAA02936; Fri, 28 Aug 1998 09:58:58 -0600 Date: Fri, 28 Aug 1998 09:58:58 -0600 Message-Id: <199808281558.JAA02936@mt.sri.com> From: Nate Williams MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit To: Mike Smith Cc: "System Administrator" , freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: [Q] PC-CARD problem In-Reply-To: <199808272302.XAA00609@word.smith.net.au> References: <199808272302.XAA00609@word.smith.net.au> X-Mailer: VM 6.34 under 19.16 "Lille" XEmacs Lucid Sender: owner-freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org > > in boot time I have message > > > > Initializing PC-card drivers: sio > > ... > > pccardc: /dev/card0 not configured .. > > Either your spelling above, or you don't have a compatible PCCARD > controller. No. "noselect" meant "there is no select function available". "seltrue" now means "there is no way to know whether data is available, so always assume there is". Ok, that's what I was looking for. You still have SMI interrupts working, but the keyboard interrupt is out. One other thing you could do is add a printf at the entry and exit of the epintr() routine in the ep driver, and see whether you end up stuck in there in case 5. I had this problem a while back with NE2000 clone cards, where the removal of the card can cause an interrupt, and once the card is gone, the interrupt bit is permanently set (reading empty port gives 0xff). In that case, we were still getting pcic interrupts, so it was possible to check the gone flag. -- \\ Sometimes you're ahead, \\ Mike Smith \\ sometimes you're behind. \\ mike@smith.net.au \\ The race is long, and in the \\ msmith@freebsd.org \\ end it's only with yourself. \\ msmith@cdrom.com To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-hardware" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-hardware Sat Aug 29 00:13:25 1998 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id AAA24083 for freebsd-hardware-outgoing; Sat, 29 Aug 1998 00:13:25 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from word.smith.net.au (castles244.castles.com [208.214.165.244]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id AAA24077 for ; Sat, 29 Aug 1998 00:13:20 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from mike@word.smith.net.au) Received: from word.smith.net.au (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by word.smith.net.au (8.9.1/8.8.8) with ESMTP id AAA01299; Sat, 29 Aug 1998 00:10:31 GMT (envelope-from mike@word.smith.net.au) Message-Id: <199808290010.AAA01299@word.smith.net.au> X-Mailer: exmh version 2.0.2 2/24/98 To: misterweb cc: freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: AHA2940/Compaq 1 gig drive related question In-reply-to: Your message of "Thu, 27 Aug 1998 05:41:30 EST." Also, booteasy should remember your selections, so once you've hit F1/ F5, it should remember and do it itself next time. If it's not, you've got some really basic problems with your system. You can control what the bootstrap boots by default by sticking the boot string in /boot.config in the a partition of the first FreeBSD slice on the disk that the bootstrap comes from, eg. 'sd(0,a)/kernel'. -- \\ Sometimes you're ahead, \\ Mike Smith \\ sometimes you're behind. \\ mike@smith.net.au \\ The race is long, and in the \\ msmith@freebsd.org \\ end it's only with yourself. \\ msmith@cdrom.com To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-hardware" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-hardware Sat Aug 29 00:48:07 1998 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id AAA26943 for freebsd-hardware-outgoing; Sat, 29 Aug 1998 00:48:07 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from word.smith.net.au (castles244.castles.com [208.214.165.244]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id AAA26893 for ; Sat, 29 Aug 1998 00:48:01 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from mike@word.smith.net.au) Received: from word.smith.net.au (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by word.smith.net.au (8.9.1/8.8.8) with ESMTP id AAA01488; Sat, 29 Aug 1998 00:45:09 GMT (envelope-from mike@word.smith.net.au) Message-Id: <199808290045.AAA01488@word.smith.net.au> X-Mailer: exmh version 2.0.2 2/24/98 To: Mike Smith cc: freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: AHA2940/Compaq 1 gig drive related question In-reply-to: Your message of "Sat, 29 Aug 1998 00:10:30 GMT." <199808290010.AAA01299@word.smith.net.au> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Date: Sat, 29 Aug 1998 00:45:08 +0000 From: Mike Smith Sender: owner-freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Just in relation to this particular response, I'd like to replay a small snippet I received attempting to reply directly to mister zahph0d: ----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors ----- ----- Transcript of session follows ----- ... while talking to vortex.misterweb.com.: >>> MAIL From: SIZE=1513 <<< 551 Fuck Yer Ass. 554 ...
