Then, I've mounted filesystems from second HDD (ad6), fsck, stressed, and everyting was OK, too. So, my hardware isn't faulty. Then I've copied one drive to another (using dd or HPT BIOS), created ata-raid and after few hours my filesystems is in inconsistent state, again. CPU cooling is OK and memory is well tested and reportd to be good. As described in kern/35175, the PT_DETACH request will, under certain circumstances, pass an unwanted signal on to the traced process upan detaching from it. The PT_CONTINUE request will sometimes fail if you make it pass a signal that has "properties" that differ from the properties of the signal that origionally caused the traced process to be stopped. Since PT_KILL is nothing than PT_CONTINUE with SIGKILL, it is broken too. In the PT_KILL case, this leads to an unkillable process. >How-To-Repeat: These problems manifest themselves in the GDB testsuite where several test will fail: FAIL: gdb.base/attach.exp: (timeout) attach2 FAIL: gdb.base/attach.exp: (timeout) after attach2, set should_exit FAIL: gdb.base/attach.exp: (timeout) after attach2, set tbreak postloop FAIL: gdb.base/attach.exp: (timeout) after attach2, reach tbreak postloop FAIL: gdb.base/attach.exp: (timeout) after attach2, exit FAIL: gdb.base/attach.exp: set source path because PT_DETACH doesn't work as advertised, and FAIL: gdb.base/attach.exp: (timeout) after attach3, exit because PT_KILL doesn't work. >Fix: These bugs are caused by code in issignal(), where the signal that's being handled isn't cleared if the process is no longer traced (i.e. for a PT_DETACH request), and where the "properties" of the current signal aren't updated when the signal to be taken is changed by the parent (i.e. for a PT_CONTINUE or PT_KILL request). The attached patch solves these problems. The first problem is fixed by a variant of the patch by Peter Edwards in kern/35175. The second problem is fixed by moving the initialisation of 'prop' further down, such that it is set based on the right signal. This patch is against version 1.196 of kern_sig.c. It turns out that I'm still getting the odd pop and crackle with the current (4.7-RC) version of the newpcm/emu10k1 driver, but nowhere near the kind of distortion that I used to get (i.e. it's merely slightly irritating, as opposed to painful). I don't use this card in anger anymore, so it's probably safe to leave this closed unless someone else raises it. Turned out that Peter's patch didn't fix all problems with ptrace(2). Therefore I filed a new problem report with a more accurate problem description and a new patch. It has the ID kern/44011. Please forget about my alternative patch here. It's way too complicated and I don't think that keeping the differences with OpenBSD as small as possible is an important goal. Could this be the cause of the behaviour you saw? From accept(2): The addrlen is a value-result parameter; it should initially contain the amount of space pointed to by addr; on return it will contain the actual length (in bytes) of the address returned. It looks as if accept() may reset this value-result parameter to zero on errors. http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=34307 To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-bugs" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-bugs Mon Oct 14 17:20: 5 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-bugs@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7E66437B401 for ; Mon, 14 Oct 2002 17:20:04 -0700 (PDT) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3964343EB7 for ; Mon, 14 Oct 2002 17:20:04 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (gnats@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.6/8.12.6) with ESMTP id g9F0K4Co027372 for ; Mon, 14 Oct 2002 17:20:04 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.6/8.12.6/Submit) id g9F0K4np027371; Mon, 14 Oct 2002 17:20:04 -0700 (PDT) Date: Mon, 14 Oct 2002 17:20:04 -0700 (PDT) Message-Id: <200210150020.g9F0K4np027371@freefall.freebsd.org> To: freebsd-bugs@FreeBSD.org Cc: From: Jed Clear Subject: Re: misc/44016: 4.7R installworld fails with /usr/obj readonly Reply-To: Jed Clear Sender: owner-freebsd-bugs@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.org The following reply was made to PR misc/44016; it has been noted by GNATS. I run ntpd on both. The firewall acts as NTP server to the fileserver. The firewall is synched to an Internet stratum 2 source (not that that matters as we're talking relative time between the two boxes). Both have /etc/wall_cmos_clock and run adjkerntz -i in /etc/rc. The timezones on both remain at EDT and the firewall keeps the right timezone when shutdown to single user. Now theoretically the clocks could drift after the firewall had been shutdown to single user for the installworld, but that would be a hell of a drift rate. I suppose if the 4.5 adjkerntz couldn't work with the new 4.7 kernel, that could be the problem. But then I'd expect a lot more to try to build, or it to fail earlier. If I'm missing something with time, let me know, otherwise please reopen the bug. -Jed To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-bugs" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-bugs Tue Oct 15 0:10: 5 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-bugs@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8141C37B401 for ; Tue, 15 Oct 2002 00:10:04 -0700 (PDT) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3E67743E9E for ; Tue, 15 Oct 2002 00:10:04 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (gnats@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.6/8.12.6) with ESMTP id g9F7A3Co024774 for ; Tue, 15 Oct 2002 00:10:03 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.6/8.12.6/Submit) id g9F7A3s4024773; Tue, 15 Oct 2002 00:10:03 -0700 (PDT) Date: Tue, 15 Oct 2002 00:10:03 -0700 (PDT) Message-Id: <200210150710.g9F7A3s4024773@freefall.freebsd.org> To: freebsd-bugs@FreeBSD.org Cc: From: Robert Dal Santo Subject: Re: kern/36482: Multiport starfire card (sf/ukphy) doesn't work when full duplex selected Reply-To: Robert Dal Santo Sender: owner-freebsd-bugs@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.org The following reply was made to PR kern/36482; it has been noted by GNATS. The card does work if you set it to 100baseTX but it goes off air with No Carrier still if you then try to set it to 100baseTX full-duplex. If you run the cards in 10baseT/UTP mode you get lots of TX ring full, resetting messages and even the occasionaly sfN watchdog timeout. Throughput is terrible in 10Mbps mode due to all the resets. I'm quite willing to roll back to an earlier version of FreeBSD to get this working if necessary if the card worked better under a previous release. Due to gcc memory alignement sizeof(struct ipfw_flow_id) is 16 bytes but we have to compare only 14 bytes of data. Last 2 bytes may be filled with garbage (cause ip_input & ip_output functions define args structure as automatic variable). As result find_queue() often fails to find right queue and creates new one. Even more, in worst case pipe limits like bandwidth may not work. (i.e. packets which should be in same queue may split among many (up to 65536 in theory) queues resulting increased bandwidth). >How-To-Repeat: this example give us multiple queues with same id: sysctl net.inet.ip.dummynet.expire=0 ipfw pipe 1 config mask src-ip 0xffffffff ipfw add 10 pipe 1 ip from 127.0.0.1 to any ping -f -c 1000 -S 127.0.0.1 localhost > /dev/null ipfw pipe 1 show if we set net.inet.ip.dummynet.expire to 1 in previous example we'll see one queue (cause all others are expired) with quite low tot_pkt/bytes counters. >Fix: --- dummynet.patch begins here --- --- sys/netinet/ip_dummynet.c~ Fri Aug 16 14:53:44 2002 +++ sys/netinet/ip_dummynet.c Mon Oct 14 20:34:00 2002 @@ -883,7 +883,11 @@ searches++ ; My case was for the jabber icqv7-t-0.3.0pre2 transport which uses libsigc++ and libicq2000. This code worked fine under all 4.6 point releases but now is prone to failure under 4.7-RELENG. The other post from one O. Hartmann referred to similar problems with Fortran programs compiled by gcc-2.95.4 on 4.7-RELEASE. For your reference the threads were titled: signal 6 after upgrade to 4.7 gcc 2.95.4 seems to be buggy in FreeBSD 4.7-RELEASE! Is this a known issue with gcc-2.95.4 and is it being investigated? This causes two problems: 1. Nagle causes the transmission of the CRLF to wait for the ACK of the command. This means an extra RTT + delayed-ack-delay to get an individual line through. 2. Filtering firewalls such as the Checkpoint Firewall/1 that enforce that the FTP port carries FTP commands do not allow command packets that do not carry CRLF. This, of course, is somewhat silly since there's nothing that says that the CRLF must be in the same packet, but is certainly a big usability issue. >How-To-Repeat: Run fetch, watch what it puts on the network. Or inspect the code. Or run it behind a Checkpoint Firewall/1 and see all of your connection attempts get reset before the authentication. >Fix: Introduce _fetch_writev() and use it in _fetch_putln().
