I seem to be having a lot of trouble with the installation. I have also downloaded the 1.4 Java as recommended and installed it, so I have downloaded over 100MB today, and still can't use the port. It is the third version of Open Office I have downloaded over the past month, and still no joy. Have I downloaded prematurely ? The command I have been trying to use is openoffice -writer (or calc etc). It starts to open - I get the splash screen etc, the I get the abovementioned error and it fails Installing form pkg_add -r or from the ports didn't work, but the past few emails to this forum explained that.(tired that install when the setup icon install didn't work) When I used the setup icon, OOo went through the installaton as usual, and completed with no errors. Just wouldn't work when I tried to use it. Please report the problem to openoffice@FreeBSD.org [maintainer] and attach the "/usr/ports/editors/openoffice-1.1/work/oo_1.1_src/config_office/config.log" including the output of the failure of your make command. Also, it might be a good idea to provide an overview of all packages installed on your system (e.g. an `ls /var/db/pkg`). *** Error code 1 Stop in /usr/ports/editors/openoffice-1.1. This should be using jdk 1.4.2p5 now not jdl 1.4.1 surely ? This is on FreeBSD 4.9 Stable. These are detected by version 2.4.8 of port devel/portlint, you can find referencs in the FreeBSD Porter's Handbook at: http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/porters-handbook/dads-after-port-mk.html http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/porters-handbook/porting-masterdir.html In most cases this is an attempt to work around the structure of bsd.port.mk. Even though this may be an easy solution for the needs of your port, please think about an other way to do it. Essentially all tools that work on the whole ports tree assume a certain uniformity in ports Makefiles, which goes beyond just compiling and installing without errors. Non-adherence to standards makes it hard for people dealing with the ports tree as a whole, and hinders progress because small changes in bsd.port.mk may break your port. If you do not know how to fix the port, ask at ports@FreeBSD.org or don't hesitate to contact me. If there is currently no other way to do what you need for installing the port, this is an area where the bsd.port.mk has to be improved, and it is important that we get aware of this fact. When there are only some comment lines at the end of the Makefile, please move or delete them. There is not FreeBSD standard that recommends ending a Makefile with '#EOF', and if not all ports do this it is of no use. I'm sorry if it hit some of Alan's ports with that, no disrespect intended.
