Has anybody installed FBSD on that model (HP PAVILION > ze2410)? What happened? : ) Hey Thiago, if u dont get any replies (none so far to the list) , this other approach may bring better results : - go to HP's website and get the full technical specs of this laptop. Make a list of the components , eg : Video : xyz card. (with precise details - eg, ATI Radeon is not good enough - ATI Radeon M24 - xxx chipset is even better); same for wired/less controller, disk controler, sound, etc. You may have to search for other pages / postings for individuals who already own that laptop to describe the components in details ( I've found that postings showing dmesg of a laptop of known make/modle are very useful - even if they relate to other OS / issues altogether - all you want is the actual model ) - look up the behaviour of freebsd wtr to each of those components. Or ask about each individual component. Good luck, B _________________________ {Beto|Norberto|Numard} Meijome "Either you are incompetent - or you are lying to me." Firstly I have to remove the bfe driver and load vesa module for console. So without bfe suspend shold work. Also loaded bfe cause an apic storm when starting X with playing music. I've tried to implement suspend/resume device methods for this driver and did it like in Linux - driver detachs on suspend and retachs on resume but system still don't wanna wake up with it. I am trying to obtain the source code for Atheros HAL code - exactly the version that has been used to generate Unicode binaries for the current MadWiFi distribution. According to the MadWiFi code its HAL_ABI_VERSION should be 0x06052200. Atheros has several postings of the MadWiFi HAL code, but all with the different HAL_ABI_VERSION (0x05071100) and it looks like this HAL version has some compatibility issues with the current MadWiFi distribution. So my question is how to get this version (0x06052200) of the HAL code? Does Atheros have it at all or it is your own proprietary version?=20 I would greatly appreciate any information on this subject.=20 Thank you for your time. -Valeri Chakourski =20 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------- -----Original Message----- From: Michael Renzmann [mailto:mrenzmann@otaku42.de ]=20 Sent: Thursday, October 19, 2006 11:42 PM To: Valeri Chakourski Subject: Re: Atheros HAL version info? Sorry, I can't give an answer to either of these questions. We receive the ready-made HAL binaries from Sam Leffler, the former author of MadWifi. None of the current team members is involved in the development of the HAL stuff, nor do they (to the best of my knowledge) have access to the HAL source at all. Not much was happening in the machine that time. This never even happened with make buildworld or JDK compilation on a summer noon. Now, ACPI reports temperatures such as 248C. Is this possible at all? It's a PIII/400 Mhz. The reslut is is that *sometimes* I cæn get to boot fully, but the message appears n about two minutes of uptime and the machione shuts down forsibly. Or it "stops" during the boot, suspending (when I press the ON button again, it follows from where it stops). So, what really happened? Did my fan break, so that it is not cooling the CPU properly? When I take the kbd away and see the inside while booting, the fan seems to be running OK? Or did my ACPI go crazy and thinks (wrongly) that the temperature is so high, forcing fbsd to shut down? There's still a bug, but for the time being I'm attributing that to the driver being young. *nothing* Likes the PCMCIA controller except windows. Even if a card gets put in and shows signs of getting power (which is rare), neither BSD nor Linux will actually be able to recognize/use the card. Also no drivers will run the intel 3945ABG card. While the BSD drivers are new, and still "beta quality", the Linux drivers are Intel, and should work. So I'm suspecting "toshiba tweaks". -Jim Stapleton On 10/24/06, Norberto Meijome wrote: > On Tue, 24 Oct 2006 15:36:41 -0400 > "Jim Stapleton" wrote: > > > One of which, while BSD/Linux friendly, is out of the picture for > > reasons of exceptionally immoral and frivolous lawsuites (in my > > oppinion), the other, while their support is surperb, does not provide > > drivers for anything but windows, and does weird stuff to their > > hardware. > > ( I've changed questions@ to mobile@ as I think is more relevant ) > ( Original posting at > http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-questions/2006-October/134208.html ) > > Hi Jim > do you mind explaining what issues you have found with Toshiba? I think i've put all this info in the FreeBSD laptop DB... ------------- $ pciconf -lv hostb0@pci0:0:0: class=0x060000 card=0x05751014 chip=0x25908086 rev=0x03 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' device = '82915PM/GM/GMS, 82910GML Host Bridge' class = bridge subclass = HOST-PCI pcib1@pci0:1:0: class=0x060400 card=0x00000088 chip=0x25918086 rev=0x03 hdr=0x01 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' device = '82915PM/GM PCI Express Graphics Port' class = bridge subclass = PCI-PCI pcm0@pci0:27:0: class=0x040300 card=0x05b71014 chip=0x26688086 rev=0x03 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' device = '82801FB/FR/FW/FRW Intel High DefiNition Audio Controller' class = multimedia pcib2@pci0:28:0: class=0x060400 card=0x00000040 chip=0x26608086 rev=0x03 hdr=0x01 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' device = '82801FB/FR/FW/FRW PCI Express Port 1' class = bridge subclass = PCI-PCI pcib3@pci0:28:1: class=0x060400 card=0x00000040 chip=0x26628086 rev=0x03 hdr=0x01 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' device = '82801FB/FR/FW/FRW PCI Express Port 2' class = bridge subclass = PCI-PCI pcib4@pci0:28:2: class=0x060400 card=0x00000040 chip=0x26648086 rev=0x03 hdr=0x01 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' device = '82801FB/FR/FW/FRW PCI Express Port 3' class = bridge subclass = PCI-PCI pcib5@pci0:28:3: class=0x060400 card=0x00000040 chip=0x26668086 rev=0x03 hdr=0x01 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' device = '82801FB/FR/FW/FRW PCI Express Port 4' class = bridge subclass = PCI-PCI uhci0@pci0:29:0: class=0x0c0300 card=0x05651014 chip=0x26588086 rev=0x03 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' device = '82801FB/FR/FW/FRW USB UHCI Controller' class = serial bus subclass = USB uhci1@pci0:29:1: class=0x0c0300 card=0x05651014 chip=0x26598086 rev=0x03 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' device = '82801FB/FR/FW/FRW USB UHCI Controller' class = serial bus subclass = USB uhci2@pci0:29:2: class=0x0c0300 card=0x05651014 chip=0x265a8086 rev=0x03 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' device = '82801FB/FR/FW/FRW USB UHCI Controller' class = serial bus subclass = USB uhci3@pci0:29:3: class=0x0c0300 card=0x05651014 chip=0x265b8086 rev=0x03 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' device = '82801FB/FR/FW/FRW USB UHCI Controller' class = serial bus subclass = USB ehci0@pci0:29:7: class=0x0c0320 card=0x05661014 chip=0x265c8086 rev=0x03 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' device = '82801FB/FR/FW/FRW USB 2.0 EHCI Controller' class = serial bus subclass = USB pcib6@pci0:30:0: class=0x060401 card=0x00000050 chip=0x24488086 rev=0xd3 hdr=0x01 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' device = '82801BAM/CAM/DBM (ICH2-M/3-M/4-M) Hub Interface to PCI Bridge' class = bridge subclass = PCI-PCI isab0@pci0:31:0: class=0x060100 card=0x05681014 chip=0x26418086 rev=0x03 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' device = '82801FBM ICH6M LPC Interface Bridge' class = bridge subclass = PCI-ISA atapci0@pci0:31:2: class=0x010180 card=0x056a1014 chip=0x26538086 rev=0x03 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' device = '82801FBM ICH6M SATA Controller' class = mass storage subclass = ATA none0@pci0:31:3: class=0x0c0500 card=0x056b1014 chip=0x266a8086 rev=0x03 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' device = '82801FB/FR/FW/FRW SMBus Controller' class = serial bus subclass = SMBus none1@pci1:0:0: class=0x030000 card=0x058e1014 chip=0x31501002 rev=0x00 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'ATI Technologies Inc' device = 'M24 1P Radeon Mobility X600' class = display subclass = VGA bge0@pci2:0:0: class=0x020000 card=0x05771014 chip=0x167d14e4 rev=0x11 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Broadcom Corporation' device = 'BCM5750A1M NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express' class = network subclass = ethernet cbb0@pci20:0:0: class=0x060700 card=0x056c1014 chip=0x04761180 rev=0xb3 hdr=0x02 vendor = 'Ricoh Co Ltd' device = 'RL5c476 CardBus Controller' class = bridge subclass = PCI-CardBus none2@pci20:0:1: class=0x0c0010 card=0x05111014 chip=0x05521180 rev=0x08 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Ricoh Co Ltd' device = 'RL5c552 IEEE-1394 Controller' class = serial bus subclass = FireWire none3@pci20:0:2: class=0x080500 card=0x05981014 chip=0x08221180 rev=0x17 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Ricoh Co Ltd' device = 'SD Bus Host Adapter' class = base peripheral none4@pci20:0:3: class=0x088000 card=0x05961014 chip=0x05921180 rev=0x08 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Ricoh Co Ltd' device = 'Memory Stick Bus Host Adapter' class = base peripheral iwi0@pci20:2:0: class=0x028000 card=0x10108086 chip=0x42248086 rev=0x05 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' device = 'PRO/Wireless 2915ABG Network Connection' class = network $ vmstat -i interrupt total rate irq0: clk 72123706 1599 irq1: atkbd0 105298 2 irq8: rtc 5771831 127 irq9: acpi0 1873717 41 irq11: cbb0 pcm0+* 17055932 378 irq12: psm0 58609 1 irq14: ata0 2433351 53 irq15: ata1 140912 3 Total 99563356 2207 ------------ _________________________ {Beto|Norberto|Numard} Meijome Law of Conservation of Perversity: we can't make something simpler without making something else more complex I speak for myself, not my employer. That is a very broad and probably invalid statement as IBM has a presence on the Lenovo board and ThinkPad development is still being done in the US (North Carolina) by pretty much the same group of engineers. Of course, there are likely some strategic changes from Lenovo in China that are impacting things. The T60 Core Duo systems look pretty good, although they all come with the dreaded 3945 wireless card. You can get am Athlon, but they are no longer "standard" upgrades. You get the system either without wireless or you replace the installed wireless card with the Atheros. HDA audio seems to be working, but I have done no serious testing since my laptop is an older T43 and the owner of the T60 does not use FreeBSD on it. The only REALLY new ThinkPad member is the Z series and I have no experience with them. -- R. Kevin Oberman, Network Engineer Energy Sciences Network (ESnet) Ernest O. It has the new Core 2 Duo, and lots of other exciting bells and whistles. :) The only negative so far is the 3945 wireless, but I have an atheros pccard to use in the meantime. I'm wondering what experiences people have with this, gotchas for FreeBSD, etc. I am planning to dual boot windows and -current. I am particularly interested in being able to suspend/resume in freebsd, so if anyone has got that working, please share the secrets. I have a very alpha 3945 driver by Damien before he left the project that gets me by, and the sound just started working with the HDA stuff committed to current recently. Graphics works without AGP in the kernel, but with AGP, the 945 video driver in recent Xorg doesn't work. You also have to use 915resolution to set the video mode. As a benchmark, Toshiba is the first company that could actually give me something as obscure as the PCMCIA controller chipset when I called - and this was the first layer of tech support. The vendors I had delt with previously couldn't even give me the video chipsets some times. The only one that this wasn't tested on lied and voided my warantee... I was so sick of them at that point, I couldn't bring up the energy to fight it until it was way too late. As for Toshiba, they have pretty much bent over backwards except where non-windows was concerned, and even there they had made some pretty decent efforts. I really don't want to loose that, but I also want to deal with my OS of choice. Also, because of my vision, and now that I actually have the money to afford a real laptop (and someone to buy my "old" one off me), it would be ideal for me to get a tablet. -Jim Stapleton On 10/25/06, Kevin Oberman wrote: > > Date: Wed, 25 Oct 2006 05:30:04 -0400 > > From: "Jim Stapleton" > > Sender: owner-freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org > > > > addendum: > > > > How are the Lenovo notebooks, now that they are no longer associated > > with IBM whatsoever? > > That is a very broad and probably invalid statement as IBM has a > presence on the Lenovo board and ThinkPad development is still being > done in the US (North Carolina) by pretty much the same group of > engineers. Yeah, the ones he is selling are pci-express, and using the latest and greatest Atheros a/b/g chip that's available stand-alone (the 5423). I did a lot of research on this topic when I was considering my purchase, and even called Atheros and talked to a very nice guy who knew exactly what I was asking (refreshing in a hardware vendor). The 5424 is _the_ latest and greatest Atheros a/b/g chip, but it's only available to a select few vendors right now, and only as a "built in," not as an OEM part. The Atheros guy I talked to said that the two chips should have pretty similar characteristics, although the newer chip would have better power consumption. PCD Global has a PCI-Express card built from the 5423, but my research gave them mixed reviews. Lenovo also has a card built from that chip that's available as a non-standard option for thinkpads. I didn't do any research on whether it would work in non-thinkpad machines. At that point I kind of gave up and decided to do what I could as a user to help get the 3945 working, since it's almost impossible to buy a laptop nowadays without one of those. But since no one is really interested in making that card work atm, I think I'm going to give Eric's colleague a buzz. :) hth, Doug -- This .signature sanitized for your protection From owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Oct 26 05:58:38 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 57F5A16A403 for ; Thu, 26 Oct 2006 05:58:38 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from freebsd@meijome.net) Received: from sigma.octantis.com.au (ns2.octantis.com.au [207.44.189.124]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D0A1043D45 for ; Thu, 26 Oct 2006 05:58:37 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from freebsd@meijome.net) Received: (qmail 24238 invoked from network); 26 Oct 2006 15:58:36 +1000 Received: from 210-84-45-50.dyn.iinet.net.au (HELO localhost) (210.84.45.50) by sigma.octantis.com.au with (DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA encrypted) SMTP; 26 Oct 2006 15:58:36 +1000 Date: Thu, 26 Oct 2006 15:58:28 +1000 From: Norberto Meijome To: "Alexandre \"Sunny\" Kovalenko" Message-ID: <20061026155828.339794fd@localhost> In-Reply-To: <1161820724.20335.12.camel@RabbitsDen.RabbitsLawn.verizon.net> References: <80f4f2b20610241236y353eb397u87c4bed8fbce2cf2@mail.gmail.com> <20061025115500.2503da00@localhost> <80f4f2b20610250230v71343b2cie9934104eff60a98@mail.gmail.com> <1161820724.20335.12.camel@RabbitsDen.RabbitsLawn.verizon.net> X-Mailer: Sylpheed-Claws 2.5.2 (GTK+ 2.10.6; i386-portbld-freebsd6.2) Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Cc: Jim Stapleton , freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Some old fashioned assistance requested, and some oppinions wanted. Last I heard, though, we that Damien was no longer working on FreeBSD support. It sounded like someone on the FreeBSD side annoyed him and he just said no more. The thing | I use it for most often is acroread, what do people use to view pdfs | in 64-bit land? I just tried epdfview, and it was about 50% successful. Yes, 32bit Linux works on amd64 kernel. You can probably do it via the module but I usually have the COMPAT_LINUX32 option in my kernel. Yes, netscape, acroread, flash works. There has been a lot of work to make FreeBSD 32bit work on amd64 as well ... good enough to host a build world, ports build etc. | As for your other stuff, I was planning to give qemu a try to run both | windows, and other versions of FreeBSD in a 64-bit 7-current host OS. | I also like your idea of doing the chroot environment, that might be a | lighter weight solution for day to day stuff. Are you going to write | up what you've done? When I get it into a form to use. I might hit up ru for some ideas on how. Sort-of like: make TARGET=i386 DESTDIR=/compat/i386 enter from /usr/src. There is some hackery needed so that things like mount etc. and libraries work right. Since we have it working here at work I understand most of the issues so ports builds work since some stuff can get messed up. If you are willing to help document what I give you to test that would help a lot. Doug A. I have a D620 with a Dell Wireless 1490 card, Broadcom BCM4310 card=0x00071028 chip=0x431214e4. I tried to use the NDIS drivers which came with it, however they caused a fatal trap due to some unimplemented NDIS functions - see http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-stable/2006-July/ 027119.html for an example. This won't necessarily happen for everyone - it may depend on the version of driver you are using. Anyhow, I decided to implement the missing bits and started by writing stubs for the missing functions. The stubs did nothing except a printf. On recompiling and loading the driver I found that the missing functions have yet to be called, and wireless is working fine. I'm connecting to an AP using WPA-PSK. I haven't generated a patch yet. It's extremely simple, but I'll follow up with one shortly. But sysctl hw.acpi.panasonic.* can work well. And if hint.apic.0.disabled=1, ACPI hotkey driver always works. I wonder if it needs different treatment than other APIC interrupts. -- Nate
