This was a fairly recent feature of XFree, I remember that around 2002 I had to use a ServerConfig with primary and second pointer to get this going at the time. I remember Linux and FreeBSD got the "merging" around the same time. I never understood which software layer did this merging, I don't think it's the X server. I have to fix it in RELENG_6, apparently, see appended message. The notebook's mousepad still works. I used to have both, the USB mouse would be assigned to work in X11 when I plugged it in. Something about moused or a layer below it changed. I can make the USB mouse work by manually calling moused like this: moused -p /dev/ums0 -t auto But then I lose the mousepad, of course. I updated all /etc files, UPDATING doesn't mention mouse or USB. The problem is not X11 specific. Calling moused on a console I can see that the console mouse cursor works for the pad but not for the USB mouse. Any ideas how to fix this? I assume I now have to either - tell moused to monitor /dev/ums0? - configure something below moused that inserts the usb mouse commands into /dev/psm's stream? I've been using the xf86-video-mga-1.4.7,1 from that PR for awhile now and it performs like previous versions. I can't use the version presently in the tree for reasons discussed on this mailing list: http://docs.freebsd.org/cgi/mid.cgi?20071103180058.1c1bd333.bsd-unix http://docs.freebsd.org/cgi/mid.cgi?20071103114415.7d910c32.bsd-unix I did try to fuss with the xf86-video-mga-1.9.100 using xrandr and such and did manage to get a resolution my eyes could live with but mplayer would only display a blue screen in its window. This version certainly didn't work out-of-the-box for me. I'm in favor of the patched version from ports/117726 but there was some discussion of having both versions in the tree since the newer version seemed to have solved some dual-head issues for others. They'll have to speak up regarding those though since I can't readily find the list references. Thanks for taking a look at this. Last I tried 1.4.7, dualhead did not work at all. Single monitor setups were okay. Has anyone who had problems with 1.9.100 contacted Tilman Sauerbeck or put a bug report on bugs.freedesktop.org? I also posted the summary of my problem on FreeBSD/pc98 to freebsd-x11. http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-x11/2007-December/005747.html In short, * older driver 1.4.6 (and maybe 1.4.7) works well with the very old MGA card such as my 2064W. (I'm FreeBSD/pc98 user and I can't use any other newer video cards.) I agree to put two ports skelton: stable and developping. Or to add some OPTONS to use stable version or develop version of mga, if possible. I lean toward two ports if only for simplicity in tracking branches, patches and eventual obsoletion of the older branch after things have been resolved. I have the following strange situation. The native programs seem to have access to direct-rendering: mi@aldan:~ (1007) glxinfo | grep -i direct libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x62 direct rendering: Yes but the Linux ones don't: mi@aldan:~ (1008) /compat/linux/usr/X11R6/bin/glxinfo | grep -i direct libGL error: open DRM failed (Operation not permitted) libGL error: reverting to (slow) indirect rendering direct rendering: No OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect What am I missing? I just (re-)installed graphics/linux_dri, but it did not help.
