I have a ATI 9450 and a dual head ATI 9250 card, but have not been able to get them to work together, though they work individually. My current workstation is still on an older version of Xorg that is currently using a Nvidia card and two Matrox cards to power three heads. It would be nice if I could retain this setup, but with newer cards listed above. When both cards are installed, I get the following error in Xorg.0.log: ------- Snip --------- (II) Loading sub module "fbdevhw" (II) LoadModule: "fbdevhw" (WW) Warning, couldn't open module fbdevhw (II) UnloadModule: "fbdevhw" (EE) Failed to load module "fbdevhw" (module does not exist, 0) (WW) Falling back to old probe method for fbdev ---------------------- full log @ http://www.pboehmer.com/Xorg.0.log >From what I understand (could be way off), the problem is related to the VGA arbiter in libpciaccess. This has recently been added for linux, so some multiple card setups are rumored to work now. I haven't looked at exactly what it is going to take to get it working on FreeBSD though. If someone wants to take this on, that would be great. robert. > Thanks. > > _______________________________________________ > freebsd-x11@freebsd.org mailing list > http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-x11 > To unsubscribe, send any mail to "freebsd-x11-unsubscribe@freebsd.org" -- Robert Noland FreeBSD From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Nov 3 20:16:30 2009 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-x11@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4C5D31065670; Tue, 3 Nov 2009 20:16:30 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from linimon@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::28]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id DB8738FC17; Tue, 3 Nov 2009 20:16:29 +0000 (UTC) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.3/8.14.3) with ESMTP id nA3KGTHb097440; Tue, 3 Nov 2009 20:16:29 GMT (envelope-from linimon@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from linimon@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.3/8.14.3/Submit) id nA3KGTT1097436; Tue, 3 Nov 2009 20:16:29 GMT (envelope-from linimon) Date: Tue, 3 Nov 2009 20:16:29 GMT Message-Id: <200911032016.nA3KGTT1097436@freefall.freebsd.org> To: linimon@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-ports-bugs@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.org From: linimon@FreeBSD.org Cc: Subject: Re: ports/140254: x11-drivers/xf86-video-cirrus: Black Screen with Cirrus X Languana driver and CL-GD5465 AGP card X-BeenThere: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: X11 on FreeBSD -- maintaining and support List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 03 Nov 2009 20:16:30 -0000 Old Synopsis: Black Screen with Cirrus X Languana driver and CL-GD5465 AGP card New Synopsis: x11-drivers/xf86-video-cirrus: Black Screen with Cirrus X Languana driver and CL-GD5465 AGP card Responsible-Changed-From-To: freebsd-ports-bugs->freebsd-x11 Responsible-Changed-By: linimon Responsible-Changed-When: Tue Nov 3 20:16:12 UTC 2009 Responsible-Changed-Why: Over to maintainer(s). http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=140254 From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Nov 4 12:40:11 2009 Return-Path: Delivered-To: x11@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 92015106566B for ; Wed, 4 Nov 2009 12:40:11 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from a.huth@tmr.net) Received: from bo-uwka-srv01.de.tmr.net (bo-uwka-srv01.de.tmr.net [212.23.146.2]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 50D288FC1E for ; Wed, 4 Nov 2009 12:40:11 +0000 (UTC) Received: from localhost (localhost.de.tmr.net [127.0.0.1]) by bo-uwka-srv01.de.tmr.net (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6242C1DF070 for ; Wed, 4 Nov 2009 13:20:56 +0100 (CET) Received: from bo-uwka-srv01.de.tmr.net ([127.0.0.1]) by localhost (bo-uwka-srv01.de.tmr.net [127.0.0.1]) (amavisd-new, port 10024) with LMTP id 56147-01-89 for ; Wed, 4 Nov 2009 13:20:56 +0100 (CET) Received: from localhost (bo-stwhv-fw02.de.tmr.net [212.23.140.253]) by bo-uwka-srv01.de.tmr.net (Postfix) with ESMTP id 17D861DEDFD for ; Wed, 4 Nov 2009 13:20:56 +0100 (CET) Date: Wed, 4 Nov 2009 12:20:59 +0100 From: Alex Huth To: x11@freebsd.org Message-ID: <20091104112059.GC15739@borusse.borussiapark> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 Content-Disposition: inline Predence: first-class Priority: normal X-Editor: VIM - Vi IMproved 7.2 (2008 Aug 9, compiled Nov 3 2009 11:23:28) X-Mailer: Mutt 1.5.20 (2009-06-14) User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.20 (2009-06-14) Cc: Subject: xorg on Dell Latitude E6500 with nvidia NVS card X-BeenThere: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: X11 on FreeBSD -- maintaining and support List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 04 Nov 2009 12:40:11 -0000 Hi! In many cases these ports are failing to compile on some subset of the FreeBSD build environments. The most common problem is that recent versions of -CURRENT include gcc4.2, which is much stricter than older versions. The next most common problem is that compiles succeed on the i386 architecture (e.g. the common Intel PC), but fail on one or more of the other architectures due to assumptions about things such as size of various types, byte-alignment issues, and so forth. In occasional cases we see that the same port may have different errors in different build environments. The script that runs on the build cluster uses heuristics to try to 'guess' the error type to help you isolate problems, but it is only a rough guide. One more note: on occasion, there are transient build errors seen on the build farm. Unfortunately, there is not yet any way for this algorithm to tell the difference (humans are much, much better at this kind of thing.) The errors are listed below. In the case where the same problem exists on more than one build environment, the URL points to the latest errorlog for that type. (By 'build environment' here we mean 'combination of 6.x/7.x/-current with target architecture'.) (Note: the dates are included to help you to gauge whether or not the error still applies to the latest version. The program that generates this report is not yet able to determine this automatically.) portname: x11-drivers/xf86-video-nsc broken because: does not build build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=x11-drivers&portname=xf86-video-nsc If these errors are ones that you are already aware of, please accept our apologies and ignore this message. On the other hand, if you no longer wish to maintain this port (or ports), please reply with a message stating that, and accept our thanks for your efforts in the past. Every effort has been made to make sure that these error reports really do correspond to a port that you maintain. However, due to the fact that this is an automated process, it may indeed generate false matches. If one of these errors fits that description, please forward this email to the author of this software, Mark Linimon , so that he can attempt to fix the problem in the future. Thanks for your efforts to help improve FreeBSD.
