It's because you have conflicting libtools and did not (at least) follow ports/UPDATING when trying to update libtool. Various flavors of this problem have been mentioned in this list numerous times before. Video card is ATI HD 5750. This card worked fine only with vesa driver. After release ATI driver 6.13.2 I tried this and get screen corruption. For me it was some progress because older version ati drivers (6.13.0. and 6.13.1) led to lockup at X start. These screen corruptions was resolved after mesa upgrade to version 7.8.2. Currently mesa version in ports is 7.4.4. So maybe there is benefit for upgrade mesa version in ports to latest. All whats need for upgrade mesa is just modify Makefiles. I am tested only this card (HD 5750) and dont know how latest mesa verison will work with another video cards. PS Sorry for my english. In many cases these ports are failing to compile on some subset of the FreeBSD build environments. The most common problem is that recent versions of -CURRENT include gcc4.2, which is much stricter than older versions. The next most common problem is that compiles succeed on the i386 architecture (e.g. the common Intel PC), but fail on one or more of the other architectures due to assumptions about things such as size of various types, byte-alignment issues, and so forth. In occasional cases we see that the same port may have different errors in different build environments. The script that runs on the build cluster uses heuristics to try to 'guess' the error type to help you isolate problems, but it is only a rough guide. One more note: on occasion, there are transient build errors seen on the build farm. Unfortunately, there is not yet any way for this algorithm to tell the difference (humans are much, much better at this kind of thing.) The errors are listed below. In the case where the same problem exists on more than one build environment, the URL points to the latest errorlog for that type. (By 'build environment' here we mean 'combination of 6.x/7.x/-current with target architecture'.) (Note: the dates are included to help you to gauge whether or not the error still applies to the latest version. The issue goes like this, I run Vbox on another computer and the VM's are headless. Occasionally, I'll start the VirtualBox GUI client remotely(ssh -Y) to manage settings, etc. The remote system also used an Nvidia card like my desktop. This worked well until my board died and I got a new one with an integrated ATI RADEON HD 3300 Graphics (RS780). Now when I start a VirtualBox remotely, and click on the Settings button of any VM, the VirtualBox GUI seg faults with the following error msg: Qt WARNING: QGLContext::makeCurrent(): Cannot make invalid context current. zsh: segmentation fault VirtualBox if you run "truss VirtualBox" the GUI will not even open with an "Effective UID is not root" error. The VirtualBox GUI runs properly when it's local, eg on physical machine/monitor or over VNC. -- Adam Vande More From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Oct 8 04:12:20 2010 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5BAC5106566C for ; Fri, 8 Oct 2010 04:12:20 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from peterjeremy@acm.org) Received: from fallbackmx07.syd.optusnet.com.au (fallbackmx07.syd.optusnet.com.au [211.29.132.9]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C15748FC1D for ; Fri, 8 Oct 2010 04:12:19 +0000 (UTC) Received: from mail14.syd.optusnet.com.au (mail14.syd.optusnet.com.au [211.29.132.195]) by fallbackmx07.syd.optusnet.com.au (8.13.1/8.13.1) with ESMTP id o9827LPW030820 for ; Fri, 8 Oct 2010 13:07:21 +1100 Received: from server.vk2pj.dyndns.org (c220-239-116-103.belrs4.nsw.optusnet.com.au [220.239.116.103]) by mail14.syd.optusnet.com.au (8.13.1/8.13.1) with ESMTP id o9827GiV022444 (version=TLSv1/SSLv3 cipher=DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA bits=256 verify=NO); Fri, 8 Oct 2010 13:07:17 +1100 X-Bogosity: Ham, spamicity=0.000000 Received: from server.vk2pj.dyndns.org (localhost.vk2pj.dyndns.org [127.0.0.1]) by server.vk2pj.dyndns.org (8.14.4/8.14.4) with ESMTP id o9827GAI068041; Fri, 8 Oct 2010 13:07:16 +1100 (EST) (envelope-from peter@server.vk2pj.dyndns.org) Received: (from peter@localhost) by server.vk2pj.dyndns.org (8.14.4/8.14.4/Submit) id o9827FDo068040; Fri, 8 Oct 2010 13:07:15 +1100 (EST) (envelope-from peter) Date: Fri, 8 Oct 2010 13:07:15 +1100 From: Peter Jeremy To: Super Biscuit Message-ID: <20101008020715.GA66045@server.vk2pj.dyndns.org> References: <65820.75757.qm@web110115.mail.gq1.yahoo.com> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/signed; micalg=pgp-sha1; protocol="application/pgp-signature"; boundary="d6Gm4EdcadzBjdND" Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <65820.75757.qm@web110115.mail.gq1.yahoo.com> X-PGP-Key: http://members.optusnet.com.au/peterjeremy/pubkey.asc User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.20 (2009-06-14) Cc: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org, xorg@freedesktop.org Subject: Re: Xorg configuration fails on G4 Powermac X-BeenThere: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: X11 on FreeBSD -- maintaining and support List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 08 Oct 2010 04:12:20 -0000 --d6Gm4EdcadzBjdND Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable On 2010-Oct-07 06:03:10 -0700, Super Biscuit wrot= e: >I've tried the xorg.conf.new with both the options you suggested and Denis= e suggested.
