Often, this is due to a better alternative having become available and/or the cessation of development on the existing port. In some cases, ports are marked for removal because they fail to build and install correctly from their sources, or otherwise fail in operation. The ports, and the reason and date that they have been scheduled for removal, are listed below. If no one has stepped forward before that time to propose a way to fix the problems (such as via a PR), the ports will be deleted. portname: x11/wrapper description: Wrapper for X.Org X11 server maintainer: x11@FreeBSD.org deprecated because: not needed anymore expiration date: 2012-03-28 build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=x11&portname=wrapper If this problem is one that you are already aware of, please accept our apologies and ignore this message. On the other hand, if you no longer wish to maintain this port (or ports), please reply with a message stating that, and accept our thanks for your efforts in the past. Thanks for your efforts to help improve FreeBSD. NVidia's Optimus technology has no support on FreeBSD. you can only use the Intel graphic controller patching the kernel and using the experimental xorg tree (in this list you can find kernel patches and instruction about the experimental tree). Quoting from "Additional Information": Note that the list of supported GPU products is provided to indicate which GPUs are supported by a particular driver version. Some designs incorporating supported GPUs may not be compatible with the NVIDIA Linux driver: in particular, notebook and all-in-one desktop designs with switchable (hybrid) or *Optimus graphics* will not work if means to *disable the integrated graphics in hardware* are not available. Hardware designs will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, so please consult with a system's manufacturer to determine whether that particular system is compatible. In other words, check if the bios can disable the integrated intel. Once that is done, pciconf -lv should show nvidia0 rather than vgapci0. -- Mel From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Mar 21 15:15:53 2012 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2A81F106564A for ; Wed, 21 Mar 2012 15:15:53 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from tevans.uk@googlemail.com) Received: from mail-vb0-f54.google.com (mail-vb0-f54.google.com [209.85.212.54]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D3C428FC14 for ; Wed, 21 Mar 2012 15:15:52 +0000 (UTC) Received: by vbmv11 with SMTP id v11so727088vbm.13 for ; Wed, 21 Mar 2012 08:15:52 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=googlemail.com; s=20120113; h=mime-version:in-reply-to:references:date:message-id:subject:from:to :cc:content-type; bh=38ZkzQkRvO8AGG1UCmcVPlXfdjYtDlpLbWGuS8bm4hI=; b=XvuJ1WwxOplsWTHuz5st/RsoKOa+7Nt35Pryy+eGdCUWxwDVlOBR0YqQkWwIf39k50 K0NjNsp0njcGZVlWiP+Wp9adx1oS2J95Q2c+ZfHCrN/LrYQykrR6/Oc+Z02b4bMK83Gw cHV2ZCpYnQWVdun6MsI+r0MXf9C71NXltJgADuILAPrLYu3TDGbrq7pWp+CGr6qMVNIk 7quIiDla/UPC+H8nbiZ6xNPCufJf6iAFOLQjHWPp8sLMos1JqeM3ljPdY9IuAYFQTz7k MOmTaGS+S22iTJR+WKEuI3EJ225AJ3Hs+Ar/KEg1oxJ+rn/DOQOTUidWxjiPFCKfDB6M FMsQ== MIME-Version: 1.0 Received: by 10.220.155.71 with SMTP id r7mr2062179vcw.24.1332342952109; Wed, 21 Mar 2012 08:15:52 -0700 (PDT) Received: by 10.52.161.71 with HTTP; Wed, 21 Mar 2012 08:15:52 -0700 (PDT) In-Reply-To: <4F69EE00.3000208@acsalaska.net> References: <1332322627.84169.YahooMailNeo@web160105.mail.bf1.yahoo.com> <4F69AD9C.9070302@bally-wulff.de> <1332341888.45829.YahooMailNeo@web160101.mail.bf1.yahoo.com> <4F69EE00.3000208@acsalaska.net> Date: Wed, 21 Mar 2012 15:15:52 +0000 Message-ID: From: Tom Evans To: Mel Flynn Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 Cc: "freebsd-x11@freebsd.org" Subject: Re: X Server 1.7.7 does not recognise BusID X-BeenThere: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: X11 on FreeBSD -- maintaining and support List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 21 Mar 2012 15:15:53 -0000 On Wed, Mar 21, 2012 at 3:04 PM, Mel Flynn wrote: > In other words, check if the bios can disable the integrated intel. I've a laptop with optimus too, and BIOS hasn't the Switch-Off feature (ASUS U46SV), so I've patched BSD9 and I'm using the intel GT on BSD. Otherwise, Linux + bumbelbee works quite good. In my spare time, I want to port the bbswitch driver (from Linux) to switch off the NVidia graphic chip, that eats tons of Watt... BUT, there's no software way to use NVidia chip as "primary" VGA without switching off the Intel integrated graphic. good luck Luca PS the pciconf shows a strange values also on Linux (lspci), BUT using Xorg log shows the correct graphic driver. I guess the pciconf shows the "optimus" device, rather then the raw graphic chip. After = all its a software issue. It works well on Windows 7 without any BIOS chang= e. I'm afraid that nVidia has publicly stated that they will not be providing support for "Optimus" in their open-source drivers. There is an effort underway to reverse-engineer the "Optimus" hybrid stuff and write a driver for X, but I would not hold my breath. The big issue is that, while Optimus uses the GPUs that are supported in their binary blobs, the "Optimus" implementation uses the frame buffers in the Intel graphics, so is quite different to actually use or program for. --=20 R. I am using xorg_7_5_2 and xorg-minimal installs fine (with WITH_NEW_XORG and WITH_KMS) but when I try and install xf86-video-intel I get the following error: ===>>> Creating a package for new version xf86-video-intel-2.17.0 tar: lib/libI810XvMC.la: Cannot stat: No such file or directory tar: lib/libI810XvMC.so: Cannot stat: No such file or directory tar: lib/libI810XvMC.so.1: Cannot stat: No such file or directory tar: lib/libIntelXvMC.la: Cannot stat: No such file or directory tar: lib/libIntelXvMC.so.1: Cannot stat: No such file or directory tar: lib/libIntelXvMC.so: Cannot stat: No such file or directory tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors. pkg_create: make_dist: tar command failed with code 256 x11/libXv x11/libXvMC both seem to install fine. This is a new problem that I have just experienced after updating my ports (which has not been done for several weeks). I am using an xorgmerge script and a non-standard set of xorg ports which have worked perfectly up until now. The libraries are definitely missing from /usr/local/lib. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks
