I have no custom CFLAGS and just this in make.conf: WITH_NEW_XORG=3Dyes The video card is an ATI RV516 [Radeon X1300/X1550 Series] (from lspci). * Problem: It seems very random but occures many times. Open something, open one other or note, use these windows (in a WM like KWin or OpenBox or even TWM) and it will hang on, click another window is impossible, they don't go in front, impossible to go "into" the window=85 Atl+tab can work=85 or= not=85 It's very strange. Does it is known or am I the only one to have this ? I want to know if the driver can get me the right resolution (1280x800) and some basic composition, This is what I get with my ArchLinux Installation. My previous ports were all built around May 23rd. Due to some odd problems (FF21 crashed, libreoffice would not start, etc.) I decided to rebuild all my ports. Today I have built enough ports to be able to run Xorg and open-motif. About 260 ports are built without error. I launch a number of xterm windows in which I work with mouse and keyboard. Once I reach this minimum level of ports building, I can transition from virtual TTYs to xterm windows as I build out the rest of my ports (target number is between 800 and 900). I was shocked and stunned when I began to move my mouse and arrange my xterm windows, some iconified and some not, that my mouse cursor disappeared! Also, my three mouse buttons did not work. The keyboard continued to work, so I suspect some change in the xf86-input-mouse port from 1.7.1_1 to 1.19.0 has occurred. I was happily using 1.7.1_1 as recently as yesterday (before this upgrade effort) where my mouse worked flawlessly. BTW, the mouse works just fine in the virtual TTYs where I am now composing this message. I can provide more detail if needed, but at present I cannot use my system with the X Window System (Xorg and friends) at all. This limits me to using only command line (non-graphical) commands and applications which is limiting. After I wiped all my ports (including removing the "work" dirctories), I ran: # cd /usr/ports # svn update /usr/ports I am aware of a recent entry in /usr/ports/UPDATING about changes to the Xorg family of ports, but for normal (standard) use, it said I should not expect any problems. This is clearly not the case! In building Xorg today, I ran these commands: # cd /usr/ports/x11/xorg # make install In the past, for the past six or seven years, this has always worked for me. I follow this with a build of x11-toolkits/open-motif which has not changed version for some time. Therefor, I do not think open-motif is at fault today. I use mouse focus within Mwm, so you can understand what I mean when I say my system is not usable at present. Please advise! :-) Regards, web... -- William Bulley Email: web@umich.edu 72 characters width template ----------------------------------------->| From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Jun 5 19:00:03 2013 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-x11@smarthost.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id DB5DDC80 for ; Wed, 5 Jun 2013 19:00:03 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206c::16:87]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B4FBC1B2D for ; Wed, 5 Jun 2013 19:00:03 +0000 (UTC) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.7/8.14.7) with ESMTP id r55J03LI005695 for ; Wed, 5 Jun 2013 19:00:03 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.7/8.14.7/Submit) id r55J03jq005694; Wed, 5 Jun 2013 19:00:03 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Date: Wed, 5 Jun 2013 19:00:03 GMT Message-Id: <201306051900.r55J03jq005694@freefall.freebsd.org> To: freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.org Cc: From: Nikolai Lifanov Subject: Re: ports/174524: [PATCH] devel/gccmakedep X-BeenThere: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.14 Precedence: list Reply-To: Nikolai Lifanov List-Id: X11 on FreeBSD -- maintaining and support List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 05 Jun 2013 19:00:03 -0000 The following reply was made to PR ports/174524; it has been noted by GNATS. Also, please send config.log. The output is not interleaved, but I did manage to find what was causing the error here. I have `LDFLAGS:= -stdlib=libc++' in /etc/make.conf, and that does not seem to play well with libXrender's configure.ac passing -Werror=unused-command-line-argument to the compilers it launches. The system is running a fresh install of FreeBSD 9.1 release amd64 with ports svn head. I rebuilt the xorg server with WITH_NEW_XORG="YES" WITH_KMS="YES" in make.conf. After a reboot, once gdm starts, I see the busy cursor flashing up a few times and then there's a black screen. No switching to a text console (which I believe has not been implemented yet) is possible and I can only login via ssh. The X logs don't show any errors. There are 7 Xorg log files of identical size listing two warnings [ 28.642] (WW) VGA arbiter: cannot open kernel arbiter, no multi-card support [ 28.774] (WW) Option "Device" requires an string value and ending with [ 28.778] (II) PS/2 Mouse: SetupAuto: hw.iftype is 4, hw.model is 0 [ 28.778] (II) PS/2 Mouse: SetupAuto: protocol is SysMouse [ 28.820] (II) UnloadModule: "kbd" [ 28.820] (II) UnloadModule: "mouse" [ 28.823] Server terminated successfully (0). Closing log file. /var/log/messages has these entries: 6x "gdm-binary[1589]: WARNING: GdmDisplay: display lasted 0.222588 seconds" and gdm-binary[1589]: WARNING: GdmLocalDisplayFactory: maximum number of X display failures reached: check X server log for errors This is a laptop with dual gfx, but the discrete card disabled in the BIOS. I've tried this without xorg.conf, and also with two .conf files in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d that represent the ServerFlags and Device section shown here, http://forums.freebsd.org/showpost.php?s=2739717f480dde7e26ce4494379517d5&p=196587&postcount=10 . Intel HDxxxx support is very experimental, even if in changelog there is "support for i915 cards". Personally, I dont speak about support but "very very highly experimental support under development". The discrete card cannot be used as a dedicated card, you'll get no result with it until support of Optimus in nVidia's driver (if I guess your discrete card is an nVidia one). I tried many things with i915 cards until giving up because it crash my UFS partitions=85 --=20 Florent Peterschmitt | Please: florent@peterschmitt.fr | * Avoid HTML/RTF in E-mail +33 (0)6 64 33 97 92 | * PDF for documents http://florent.peterschmitt.fr | Thank you :) ------enig2HMGQXOJEJMFNRNLGPDQF Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name="signature.asc" Content-Description: OpenPGP digital signature Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="signature.asc" -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.12 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Icedove - http://www.enigmail.net/ iQEcBAEBAgAGBQJRsE9fAAoJEMtO2Sol0IIm3MwH/1NYxtZ243jmHcjx+1p7nbbT ZCberKJY97/XalP+fuXwzd08FkDhgl3l81DGhHNM1GPYqz2yynRgob1zLjQCL+lI /IUTwLiBYG2f3+13FSYmPxib3CrbevggLye8Kvywbt9zNWiRsiTSirQCYgxwrkYq NmcwocT7ZD2hId7+ANgEIsnPraGAE98+yW/Rk+6nZ/xBuqfkF2Nh0LUCV3HPV2lu /YTqRk/9GR/nEUT1Bd7us3KJWDwPAOvmBBiJ53u2KuItFGoecE1oyDy/3VowSzIS mQrR5vlbhKg6pOIYeTmOYvTtKn1Pdwe4ilHCbXx3OqLOLTMhVgPQ6RSHnPZTqqc= =ER3m -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- ------enig2HMGQXOJEJMFNRNLGPDQF-- From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Jun 6 09:02:08 2013 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4E8146B5 for ; Thu, 6 Jun 2013 09:02:08 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from florent@peterschmitt.fr) Received: from peterschmitt.fr (peterschmitt.fr [5.135.177.31]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 17AD71185 for ; Thu, 6 Jun 2013 09:02:08 +0000 (UTC) Received: from [172.29.180.39] (unknown [194.214.114.46]) by peterschmitt.fr (Postfix) with ESMTPSA id 1DA529FB1 for ; Thu, 6 Jun 2013 11:02:10 +0200 (CEST) Message-ID: <51B0505F.106@peterschmitt.fr> Date: Thu, 06 Jun 2013 11:03:27 +0200 From: Florent Peterschmitt User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:17.0) Gecko/20130518 Icedove/17.0.5 MIME-Version: 1.0 To: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Window stucking - can't =?windows-1252?Q?resize/move/close=85?= References: <51AB0AFE.6080205@peterschmitt.fr> In-Reply-To: <51AB0AFE.6080205@peterschmitt.fr> X-Enigmail-Version: 1.5.1 Content-Type: multipart/signed; micalg=pgp-sha1; protocol="application/pgp-signature"; boundary="----enig2RDCEOJJCCGCDIMWPKEKO" X-BeenThere: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.14 Precedence: list List-Id: X11 on FreeBSD -- maintaining and support List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 06 Jun 2013 09:02:08 -0000 This is an OpenPGP/MIME signed message (RFC 4880 and 3156) ------enig2RDCEOJJCCGCDIMWPKEKO Content-Type: text/plain; charset=windows-1252 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Le 02/06/2013 11:06, Florent Peterschmitt a =E9crit : > Hi, >=20 > It's a problem I have since a long time, when NEW_XORG was out and usin= g > FreeBSD-9.1 and now -CURRENT. >=20 > I have no custom CFLAGS and just this in make.conf: >=20 > WITH_NEW_XORG=3Dyes >=20 > The video card is an ATI RV516 [Radeon X1300/X1550 Series] (from lspci)= =2E >=20 > * Problem: >=20 > It seems very random but occures many times.
