At stanza "29.6.2.7.1 Using make world to populate root", the shown script is missing the make installworld && make installkernel directives. Due to that, the make distribution seems to fail with errorcode 64. One more thing to add may be a "cp /boot/device.hints $DESTDIR/boot/" before "make installkernel", because "make installkernel" failed on my machine without having a device.hints in place.
