Heh. But there's more than one way to get a SCSI drive, thanks to Thomas = Quinot... :-) If you're running -STABLE (they're already in the tree for -CURRENT) you = can apply the ATAPI-CAM patches from: http://www.cuivre.fr.eu.org/~thomas/atapicam/ There's two patches, and a few lines to add to the config file, and then = your IDE CD/DVD/CD-RW becomes dual personality, like this: acd0: CD-RW at ata1-master PIO4 Mounting root from ufs:/dev/ad0s2a cd0 at ata1 bus 0 target 0 lun 0 cd0: Removable CD-ROM SCSI-0 device = cd0: 16.000MB/s transfers cd0: Attempt to query device size failed: NOT READY, Medium not present You can both hot-swap it out with 'atacontrol' and use it as a SCSI = device. Works perfectly with 'cdrecord' for me. cdrecord -scanbus Cdrecord 1.11a28 (i386-unknown-freebsd4.6) Copyright (C) 1995-2002 J=F6rg= = Schilling Using libscg version 'schily-0.6' scsibus0: 0,0,0 0) 'TEAC ' 'DW-28E ' '1.0A' Removable = CD-ROM cdrecord -dev=3D0,0,0 -inq Cdrecord 1.11a28 (i386-unknown-freebsd4.6) Copyright (C) 1995-2002 J=F6rg= = Schilling scsidev: '0,0,0' scsibus: 0 target: 0 lun: 0 Using libscg version 'schily-0.6' Device type : Removable CD-ROM Version : 0 Response Format: 2 Capabilities : = Vendor_info : 'TEAC ' Identifikation : 'DW-28E ' Revision : '1.0A' Device seems to be: Generic mmc2 DVD-ROM.
