As far as I can tell, qt-1.x was not > broken, and its' only "crime" is being old. It is a support nightmare to keep, not to mention most of the ports are mostly useless since most people won't be using them. People had plenty of notice, approximately 9 months, to update their ports to a newer version of Qt, or remove the dependency on Qt.
