It's purpose seems to be to find out where the Squid master process puts it's pidfile. Thankfully the rc script does not need this information at all -- it relies on the Squid master process to do the right thing. However I do consider adding a configuration variable "squid_config" or somesuch for the next update if it helps improving the script's readabilty.
