DEPRECATION seems perfectly correct to me, the port is set deprecated so users and maintainers know they should switch to the recommended giflib. We can argue on EXPIRATION_DATE, I imagine that if it's set someone has patches for all depending ports and they will be committed before that date. -- Alex Dupre
