I also think it's a bit easier to keep tabs on a few needed services than to have to keep track of things like time, echo finger etc. as well. I personally don't use them at all so I made sure that they are commented. I have made changes to the filter rules once or twice that caused it not to load and if I had all those things running, it would have exposed a great deal more. Just my ramblings.
