In the case where the alias is not being applied, it's just as if there's no (or an empty) alias file there. You do seem to have a stray tab character in your aliases file -- which results in the appearance of this: > to=3Dtoomas.aas@raad.tartu.ee\t,=20 ^^ But that shouldn't cause any of the effects you've been seeing.
