It isn't 100% efficient or even as efficient as the hardware solution, but it's cheap and it works well. I've used it for customers who want to bond 2 T1s but do not want to pay for the multiplexers and other equipment to do it right. One thing though, do remember that using MPPP will increase the CPU load on your router. If your using a Cisco 2503 and you bond 2 256k circuits you should be ok as long as your not trying to do anything else like BGP.
