I realize that, to most other English speakers, the American term
sounds like a feminine hygeine product, or worse. But for us,
that connotation just isn't there! In fact, this week I heard
the word used, on the radio, as a euphemism for a term which is
considered to be only mildly risque in BOTH countries.

Shows how easy it is to make a faux pas(*) even when one is 
speaking what is supposedly the "same" language.
