At boot time, pccard device is recognized (boot messages attached), but whether or not a card is installed in the slot, repeating error messages are logged every few minutes saying "pccard: card inserted" and "pccard: card removed". Also frequent error messages logged saying "/kernel: pcic0: Card type none (can't happen) is unsupported" and "/kernel: pcic0: Card type 32-bit cardbus is unsupported". I have confirmed that my card is not cardbus, it is 16-bit; so this is a bogus error. The card inserted/removed errors are logged even when pccardd is not running. I have tried to investigate with a card installed in one slot. I used the pccardc command to give power to the card, then asked for it to dump its CIS. Here is the result of that: playboy% pccardc dumpcis 0 Configuration data for card in slot 0 Tuple #1, code = 0xff (Terminator), length = 0 1 slots found I had FreeBSD-4.6.2 previously installed on this same laptop and the pccard slot worked fine; it was only after installing 4.8-RELEASE that this problem appeared. The pccard slot did work for me one time only under 4.8. Immediately after I booted for the first time, it showed the symptoms I described, logging card inserted/card removed, but as soon as I started up X-windows (via startx), my system logged "card inserted" and the device worked through my entire X session. When I exited my X session, my system immediately logged "card removed" and it has not worked since, even with subsequent boot/startx sequences. >How-To-Repeat: This happens anytime my laptop is booted; no action necessary. >Fix: --- messages-boot begins here --- May 14 14:23:08 playboy /kernel: Copyright (c) 1992-2003 The FreeBSD Project.
