OK, I'll put it up to freefall/incoming. ftp rates are
terribly slow as usual so don't expect it before 9 am 
Pacific time.
I requires some rc file(s) though which should reside in the
home dir. Also the layout templates should be there
./layout (default). So you'd better get the LyX tar ball
anyway. lyx.gz  (the static binary) will be 

-rwxr-xr-x  1 kuku  kuku  408432 Feb 21 15:08 lyx.gz

You may get updates and patches via anonymous ftp from

       ftp.via.ecp.fr/pub/lyx
       fiwi02.wiwi.uni-tuebingen.de/pub/LyX/Mirror.ftp.via.ecp.fr

Best is you start the lyx binary in it's build directory.
