I wouldn't describe either the pros or the cons as particularly strong. If you're not going to use sendmail, you might want to remove it. If you do source upgrades, then setting WITHOUT_SENDMAIL in src.conf will keep it from getting built or installed, and will enable you to remove the existing sendmail files as part of "make delete-old".
