There will be no cdboot images for this RC, as it is clear that this functionality needs some more work and will not be ready in time for 4.5. Please watch freebsd-alpha for an announcement about the status of RC2 for the Alpha platform. This release candidate fixes a number of issues that were reported with RC1. Loadable kernel modules are now available on the MFSROOT floppy, and these are automatically loaded by sysinstall. This functionality could use a great deal of testing. There is a little extra room left over for another kernel module or two, so if there is a device that you would like to use for installation that is currently not included on the boot kernel, please speak up. Installing Linux compatibility during installation should now work, and could also use a fair amount of testing with common Linux applications such as Netscape and Acrobat reader. The Gnome / Sawfish and fvwm2 ports are still unavailable in the package set. This will be fixed with RC3 to follow in the coming days. There was also a build failure for 'unzip', but otherwise the package set is complete. This ISO image does not include HFS support (mkisofs -h) for long file names and extended attributes on the Macintosh platform. This gives us an extra 30MB to use for packages : -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 683661312 Jan 17 22:48 4.5-RC2-HFS.iso -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 652187648 Jan 17 22:52 4.5-RC2-install.iso The FreeBSD 4.4 CDs did not include HFS support either, but previous releases may have. If anyone requires this functionality, please speak up.
