While I didnt download the mini_installer disc, the first note I had was the title of disc1, which was fbsd5_mini.. this is the first, minor, mistake.. it doesnt effect the installation... lets go further. I booted by disc1, and the machine hangs during the very first boot at the following point: --- ... stripped off... acd0: CD-RW (ASUS CRW-5224A) at ata3-master PIO4 MBREXT Slice 5 on ad4s2: 0000 01 01 c1 ff 0c fe ff ff 3f 00 00 00 37 16 71 02 | ........?...7.9.| [0] f:00 typ:12 s(CHS):255/1/193 e(CHS):255/254/255 S:63 L:40965687 0000 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 |...............| [1] f:00 typ:0s(CHS) : 0/0/0 e(CHS) :0/0/0 s:0 l:0 Mountig root from ufs:/dev/md0 --- I thought it is my labtop which causes the problem, so I tried the same with my desktop, and it causes the very same thing: a hang during the very first boot up. I wonder, how could FreeBSD 4.8, and even 3.2, boot up my machine with No Error whatsoever, while your fancy new release, freebsd 5.0, the well developed and most advanced, aint able to. Attached is its FreeBSD 4.8 dmesg.boot, the latest working release on my desktop. Regards __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! Search - Faster. Easier.
