You should only set firewall_type once, and the only rc file you need to change is rc.conf. You could set it in rc.firewall, and that would replace rc.conf's value, but that would also defeat the whole purpose of rc.conf. Make sense? rc.conf is kind of like a centralized file to store all of your rc related settings... That way you don't need to change the more complicated files, such as rc.firewall.
