Subscribing, Unsubscribing, and Address Changes ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To subscribe or unsubscribe on the Web: To subscribe via e-mail, send a blank message to: You will receive a confirmation e-mail from us. You must respond to it in order to confirm your subscription. We require this step to make sure that nobody is able to subscribe you without your permission. To unsubscribe via e-mail, send a blank message to your personal unsubscribe address, which you will find at the bottom of every Word of the Day message we send you. If you are unsure what e-mail address you subscribed under, you can find that information at the bottom of every Word of the Day message we send you. To change your address, simply unsubscribe the old address and then subscribe again under the new address. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2. Problems Receiving the Word of the Day ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sometimes we have problems delivering the Word of the Day to some of our subscribers. Most frequently the problem is caused by a temporary network outage or software misconfiguration on the receiving end. If you are a subscriber but you are not receiving your daily message, please check with your mail administrator to make sure that mail from is allowed to be delivered to your mailbox, and to make sure that there are no other problems preventing you from receiving your e-mail. You may also wish to check the settings in your e-mail program to make sure it isn't incorrectly flagging our messages as spam. If you find that the Word of the Day is going to your trash folder or to a 'bulk mail' folder, then you will want to adjust your junk mail filter. Note that if you are subscribed according to our system, that means we are sending you the Word of the Day every day. However, once we send the e-mail, it is out of our hands. The reason you are not receiving is because something is preventing delivery. Typically that problem is an aggressive spam filter or some other problem on the receiving end. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2a. A special message for Hotmail users ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The reason you're not receiving the Word of the Day is most likely because of Hotmail's 'Junk Mail Filter', which is supposed to block 'spam', or unsolicited bulk e-mail ('junk mail'). Unfortunately, it also blocks some solicited mail, including the Word of the Day. You can either disable the Junk Mail Filter, or add Doctor Dictionary to the 'Safe List', which is the list of accounts that you do not want the Junk Mail Filter to block. To do so, you will need to log in to your Hotmail account, select 'Options', then select 'Safe List'. You will probably find any Words of the Day you have missed either in your 'Junk Mail' folder or in the 'Trash' folder. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2b. A special message for Yahoo users ------------------------------------------------------------------------ If you're not receiving the Word of the Day, please check your Bulk Mail folder; the Word of the Day might be going there. If you find our message in your Bulk Mail folder, open it and click on "Send to Yahoo! for Review" to let them know the Word of the Day is not unsolicited commercial e-mail (spam). If you do not want a Bulk Mail folder at all, go to Mail Preferences. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3. Temporarily Suspending your subscription ------------------------------------------------------------------------ We have no way of suspending subscriptions, but you can unsubscribe and subscribe again whenever you want. For instructions, see above (#1). You can always find any words you may have missed in our archive: . ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 4. Word of the Day in Other Languages ------------------------------------------------------------------------ We do not offer a Word of the Day service in other languages, nor do we have plans to do so. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. If you are receiving duplicate messages ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Word of the Day e-mail and related notification messages are sent out only once. If you are receiving multiple copies, first check to see whether the e-mail is going to different addresses. You can do so by checking at the bottom of the Word of the Day e-mail, where the address of the recipient is always given. If you are receiving the Word of the Day at different addresses, you can unsubscribe any of them by following the directions at the bottom of the e-mail. If you are getting multiple e-mails to the same address, it's most likely a problem with your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or your computer setup. You may wish to contact ISP's technical support and let them know you are having this problem. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6. Receiving an HTML or WAP or other version of the Word of the Day ------------------------------------------------------------------------ We do not offer any other version except the plain text version. We do not offer special formatting for WAP devices or for Palms or any other devices. We do not have any plans to offer other versions or formats. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7. Previous Words of the Day ------------------------------------------------------------------------ All previous Words of the Day are available in our archive: Unfortunately we are unable to e-mail past Words of the Day to you. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 8. A word about Spam ------------------------------------------------------------------------ We do not send 'spam', or unsolicited bulk commercial e-mail. We do not share your personal information, such as your e-mail address, with any other parties. If you are receiving spam, it has nothing to do with us or your subscription to the Word of the Day. We take great pains to protect your privacy. More information about our policy is available at: . ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 9.
