Let me >inform< you that we can not go ahead with the planned "no extra reboots needed" feature of sysinstall, unless I get your permission to fix the swap-initialization. The problem is if you have no swapdevices, (as in "no freebsd-slice") when you boot the floppy, then you cannot do a swapon. This is because the swapdevices are tallied and sized before /sbin/init (which is stupid). This bit of initialization should be done as part of the first swapon(2) call done. Let Jordan decide this one, he's the one doing sysinstall, and he will have to cope with that reboot if we don't change it. -- Poul-Henning Kamp -- TRW Financial Systems, Inc. You don't have a vote in this matter, this is the decision of the release engineer, who has appointed that power to me. Just as you had veto power when you where release engineer. Sorry folks, I posted the FREEZE doc, and now code change rate has jumped instead of slowed to a very small crawl. If this continues to happen Jordan and I had already discussed what would happen, and your not going to like it one bit. We will cvs co a tree and only pull bits in that we feel are absolutely critical, if necessary we will branch the tree. As you told me the other day quit driving from the back seat, well, might I ask the same. Jordan has asked that I be the source code Czar over the tree right now, so your driving from my back seat. No matter how cool something may seem, right before release is *NOT* the time to implement it. -- Rod Grimes rgrimes@gndrsh.aac.dev.com Accurate Automation Company Custom computers for FreeBSD From owner-cvs-sbin Fri May 12 13:29:41 1995 Return-Path: cvs-sbin-owner Received: (from majordom@localhost) by freefall.cdrom.com (8.6.10/8.6.6) id NAA21243 for cvs-sbin-outgoing; Fri, 12 May 1995 13:29:41 -0700 Received: from gndrsh.aac.dev.com (gndrsh.aac.dev.com [198.145.92.241]) by freefall.cdrom.com (8.6.10/8.6.6) with ESMTP id NAA21225 ; Fri, 12 May 1995 13:29:13 -0700 Received: (from rgrimes@localhost) by gndrsh.aac.dev.com (8.6.11/8.6.9) id NAA01958; Fri, 12 May 1995 13:28:12 -0700 From: "Rodney W. I'm inclined to concur, as well as offer a gentle but firm rebuke to Rod for perhaps jumping a little _too_ quickly at Garrett's throat. We need source code policing, but it's not entirely appropriate to start shooting people who are out 5 minutes after curfew just 8 hours after *impending* martial law is declared. After the balloon goes up and we can point to at least 72 hours worth of warning, then it's time to start unholstering our weapons and looking for targets. I think we need to be a little more politic during the transition period, however. I'm the one who will ultimately be stuck with any breakage and feel as conservative about change as anyone here, but I have no desire to alienate the bread-and-butter of our project in doing so. A little moderation may be called for here! Nobody needs a flame war in these lists just 2 days before code freeze!
