The reason that I am thinking is to be able to write meta filters so with one single command we could create cut out text or customizable filters . For instance , a given filter could be presented with a set of options which could be easily modified at run-time. If we do this we will have one hell of an image processing program. The latest version of tcl supports sockets connection and it should be "a piece of cacke" to create a routine to listen and handle the socket communications. There is other stuff like converting GIMP to use XIE instead of shared memory which will make the program more user friendly at the system level. http://www.xcf.berkeley.edu/~gimp/ Tnks, Amancio From owner-freebsd-multimedia Wed May 8 20:35:01 1996 Return-Path: owner-multimedia Received: (from root@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.7.3/8.7.3) id UAA04150 for multimedia-outgoing; Wed, 8 May 1996 20:35:01 -0700 (PDT) Received: from rah.star-gate.com (rah.star-gate.com [204.188.121.18]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.7.3/8.7.3) with SMTP id UAA04136 for ; Wed, 8 May 1996 20:34:58 -0700 (PDT) Received: from rah.star-gate.com (localhost.star-gate.com [127.0.0.1]) by rah.star-gate.com (8.6.12/8.6.12) with ESMTP id TAA02905; Wed, 8 May 1996 19:11:42 -0700 Message-Id: <199605090211.TAA02905@rah.star-gate.com> X-Mailer: exmh version 1.6.5 12/11/95 To: Matt Thomas cc: multimedia@freebsd.org Subject: The Matt tv channel?? The tcl/tk interface would just invoke actions on gimp The guild and perl approach is fine however you really want to have also a graphical interface to the scripting language. The origins of GIMP are in Lisp so it does not surprise me that its authors have chosen guild. At work , I had the opportunity to install FreeBSD on a P166 and vic was just simply nice sometimes cranking out 30 frames / sec for instance while drinking a can of coke in front of the camera. A P6 166 would probably take care of you however the motherboard alone costs > $2000 :( For memory , I would get 32mb. 16MB is okay however 32MB of main memory is nice to have specially if you are doing true color stuff. HINT: Don't skimp out on the memory cause I think that later on you may need it 8) END OF HINT I wouldn't get the Xinside server for video stuff because then you may loose a TV 8) Jim modified the meteor driver so it can dump raw video to the frame buffer . Xinside does not make the frame buffer available at the application level however they have other stuff which you may be interested. Hint: I have an S3 968 which works really good in true color the Matrox stuff drops drastically in performance in true color;however, if you don't mind running in 256 colors then the Matrox Millinium is one of the fastest cards in the market. I think that Thomas Roell clocked the Matrox Millenium to 1,000,000 xstones on a P5 166. Would you care to give a definitive opinion? :-) > > Jordan No need for apologies... I am going to support the GUS PnP Pro thats the GUS PnP with 512k . The card needs memory to configure itself for GUS Max emulation. This is the entry on my system to get the GUS PnP working: controller snd0 device gus0 at isa? vector gusintr Basically, the gus driver looks for a GUS PnP in the system and then configures the card for the user. Very, very complicated I must say 8) Now if the motherboard does not support PnP or there is some weird conflict on the sytem then just use the old style configuration for the GUS Max: device gus0 at isa? port 0x220 irq 11 drq 1 flags 0x3 vector gusintr Now the only gotcha that I have over here is that playback using 16bit dma is not working other than that the card is working fine. So if I specify dma 1 for playback and dma 3 for recording the driver works just fine. If I don't get the gus pnp 16bit dma support tonite I will release the driver however you guys will have to configure the card the old way to use 8 bit dma channels. I will be back in a few hours this system is going up and down till I can figure out what the hell is going on with 16bit dma playback. Hubbard" Sender: owner-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Precedence: bulk I have FreeBSD 2.1.0 and am very happy with it, but I have a question. I have a Creative Labs Video Spigot video capture card, and I downloaded the spigot library, but I am not sure how to use it. I would like to either get some capture software or some explanation on how the library works so that I may use it myself to write such a program. Thank you for your help! -- Dan Kamins dkamins@fas.harvard.edu
