The current subdirectory searching is not completely broken, but the default path (/usr/local/lib/texmf/tex//) did not work. (A path like /usr/local/lib/texmf//tex/ works though). The best way to avoid problems is to not use this feature and to add your new input files in /usr/local/lib/texmf/tex/ or to set the TeX environment variables to the list of directories to be searched. This manifests as it being uninstallable. The culprit appears to be in the libtiff Makefile, where the following construct : libtiff.a: ${OBJS} ${AR} rc libtiff.a $? ${RANLIB} libtiff.a fails to do anything useful with '$?', and 'ar' dies. Replacing $? with ${OBJS} appears to fix this, but not being a Makefile guru I realise that this isn't necessarily the 'right' way to do it. -- ]] Mike Smith, Software Engineer msmith@atrad.adelaide.edu.au [[ ]] Genesis Software genesis@atrad.adelaide.edu.au [[ ]] High-speed data acquisition and (GSM mobile) 0411-222-496 [[ ]] realtime instrument control (ph/fax) +61-8-267-3039 [[ ]] Collector of old Unix hardware. We have learned our lesson, and it is: if we have a port that is depended from a lot of other ports, and the authors do not preserve backward compatibility, we can't have only one version of it. I doesn't make sense to rename tcl75/tk41 to tcl/tk; when tcl76/tk42 come out, we'll have to do the same thing all over again. I saw Satoshi's reply, I guess we won't be making tcl75-->tcl. I guess (when I read the reasons) that I even agree. That way we can slowly phase out the old libraries. :) Satoshi From owner-freebsd-ports Wed May 8 01:11:06 1996 Return-Path: owner-ports Received: (from root@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.7.3/8.7.3) id BAA07197 for ports-outgoing; Wed, 8 May 1996 01:11:06 -0700 (PDT) Received: from sapa.inka.de (root@sapa.inka.de [193.197.84.6]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.7.3/8.7.3) with SMTP id BAA07178 for ; Wed, 8 May 1996 01:10:57 -0700 (PDT) Received: from uu.inka.de (root@[193.197.84.8]) by sapa.inka.de with smtp (S3.1.29.1) id ; Wed, 8 May 96 10:10 MET DST Received: (br@stiller.netland.inka.de) by uu.inka.de (S3.1.29.1) id ; Wed, 8 May 96 10:10 MET DST Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by stiller.netland.inka.de (8.6.12/8.6.12) with ESMTP id WAA11231 for ; Mon, 6 May 1996 22:17:13 +0200 Message-Id: <199605062017.WAA11231@stiller.netland.inka.de> To: freebsd-ports@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Tex port In-reply-to: Your message of "Mon, 06 May 1996 21:58:36 +0200." <199605061958.VAA09943@stiller.netland.inka.de> Date: Mon, 06 May 1996 22:17:12 +0200 From: Bernd Rosauer Sender: owner-ports@freebsd.org X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Precedence: bulk Josh MacDonald: > > tex is composed of many parts, and some of the tex packages I've seen > > (and tried) have really disappointed me. If you look into the teTeX sources you'll find plain TeX under teTeX-0.3.3/kpse-2.6/web2c/tex/. You can omit the leading directory if you have another web2c-TeX distribution but the basic direcory structure is always the same for these Unix TeXs. It may also help if you take a look at the way teTeX invokes the kpse-level make process. -Bernd From owner-freebsd-ports Wed May 8 02:26:48 1996 Return-Path: owner-ports Received: (from root@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.7.3/8.7.3) id CAA18413 for ports-outgoing; Wed, 8 May 1996 02:26:48 -0700 (PDT) Received: from kanto.cc.jyu.fi (root@kanto.cc.jyu.fi [130.234.1.2]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.7.3/8.7.3) with ESMTP id CAA18406 for ; Wed, 8 May 1996 02:26:44 -0700 (PDT) Received: from localhost (kallio@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by kanto.cc.jyu.fi (8.7.2/8.7.2) with SMTP id MAA22630; Wed, 8 May 1996 12:26:18 +0300 (EET DST) Date: Wed, 8 May 1996 12:26:14 +0300 (EET DST) From: Seppo Kallio To: xviewbugs@Eng.Sun.COM, ports@freebsd.org Subject: Please add 16 bit color depth to olvwm Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Sender: owner-ports@freebsd.org X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Precedence: bulk You have to add only one line to screen.c *** olvwm4pl1/screen.c Sun Apr 23 22:22:17 1995 --- olvwm4pl1-truecolor/screen.c Fri Feb 2 23:08:35 1996 *************** *** 282,287 **** --- 282,288 ---- case PseudoColor: case GrayScale: case DirectColor: + case TrueColor: return True; /*NOTREACHED*/ break; From owner-freebsd-ports Wed May 8 06:18:47 1996 Return-Path: owner-ports Received: (from root@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.7.3/8.7.3) id GAA18968 for ports-outgoing; Wed, 8 May 1996 06:18:47 -0700 (PDT) Received: from vanuata.dcs.gla.ac.uk (vanuata.dcs.gla.ac.uk [130.209.240.50]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.7.3/8.7.3) with ESMTP id GAA18948 for ; Wed, 8 May 1996 06:18:22 -0700 (PDT) Message-Id: <199605081318.GAA18948@freefall.freebsd.org> Received: from solander.dcs.gla.ac.uk by vanuata.dcs.gla.ac.uk with LOCAL SMTP (PP); Wed, 8 May 1996 14:17:03 +0100 To: ports@freebsd.org Subject: Updated zsh port Date: Wed, 08 May 1996 14:17:01 +0100 From: Simon Marlow Sender: owner-ports@freebsd.org X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Precedence: bulk Hi folks, I've updated the zsh port to the latest beta 17 (it's currently at beta 13). The port required minor changes, including a new master ftp site. The man page for zshall still doesn't work, because it tries to include other man pages using .so, which fails if the pages in question are gzipped. Someone who knows nroff can probably hack up a patch for this. You should have asked Lars Köller or me before. :-(( I've got a submission from Lars ready for committ (though i'd like to first test it myself before), and Lars has been announcing it in this list a few days before. May i kindly ask you to contact Lars Köller for any suggestions, so you can co-operate? The port references 1.0.7, whereas the current version is 1.0.14. This isn't so much a problem, except the author moves the old releases to the "old/" subdirectory of the tree. Additionally, it's not on ftp.freebsd.org in distfiles. So, if someone would update it, it would be appreciated. If not, perhaps adding a second source location, that of ftp://ftp.bond.edu.au/pub/Minerva/msql/old To the Makefile would at least let it work out of the box for v1.07. I also added my own suggestion of putting the /Old/ subdirectory in the list of distribution sites so that the port doesn't break the day the author goes to 1.0.15. BTW, I hope I'm not stepping on anyone's toes here. If the person who originally did the port wants to stand up, please do so. Right now there's no discernable maintainer listed. So, try make as root, or become root and do chmod 777 . and do make as a non-super-user. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Masafumi NAKANE, Keio Univ., Dept. of Environmental Information E-Mail : t94303mn@sfc.keio.ac.jp / max@sfc.wide.ad.jp [URL] : http://www.sfc.keio.ac.jp/~t94303mn From owner-freebsd-ports Fri May 10 16:55:14 1996 Return-Path: owner-ports Received: (from root@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.7.3/8.7.3) id QAA04907 for ports-outgoing; Fri, 10 May 1996 16:55:14 -0700 (PDT) Received: from sapa.inka.de (root@sapa.inka.de [193.197.84.6]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.7.3/8.7.3) with SMTP id QAA04899 for ; Fri, 10 May 1996 16:55:09 -0700 (PDT) Received: from uu.inka.de (root@[193.197.84.8]) by sapa.inka.de with smtp (S3.1.29.1) id ; Sat, 11 May 96 01:10 MET DST Received: (br@stiller.netland.inka.de) by uu.inka.de (S3.1.29.1) id ; Sat, 11 May 96 01:10 MET DST Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by stiller.netland.inka.de (8.6.12/8.6.12) with ESMTP id MAA27083 for ; Fri, 10 May 1996 12:31:22 +0200 Message-Id: <199605101031.MAA27083@stiller.netland.inka.de> To: freebsd-ports@freebsd.org Subject: Re: mSQL port out of date Date: Fri, 10 May 1996 12:31:21 +0200 From: Bernd Rosauer Sender: owner-ports@freebsd.org X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Precedence: bulk James FritzGibbon: > I'm not sure who originally did the mSQL port (it just says "mr"), but > it's a bit out of date. Yes, I broke down and read the pre-extract script and fiugred this out. Satoshi, why do we enforce mtree permissions for /usr/local? I hate having to be root to install packages after I make them and in this case, there's actually a port which require you to be root when you're building it. I sometimes chmod the group permissions on my /usr/local tree, but this gets wiped out the next time I do a make install because mtree changes it back. > BTW: Why do you not install the teTeX package? I have strange CFLAGS options and the port does a CFLAGS = instead of a CFLAGS += to add a -D parameter.
