Here's an extract from sppp(4): It is possible to leave the local interface IP address open for negotia- tion by setting it to 0.0.0.0. This requires that the remote peer can correctly supply a value for it based on the identity of the caller, or on the remote address supplied by this side. Due to the way the IPCP op- tion negotiation works, this address is being supplied late during the negotiation, which might cause the remote peer to make wrong assumptions. In a similar spirit the remote address can be set to the magical value 0.0.0.1 which means that we don't care what address the remote side will use, as long as it is not 0.0.0.0. This is useful if your ISP has sever- al dial-in servers. You can of course route add something or other 0.0.0.1 and it will do exactly what you would want it to. Just ifconfig the interface correctly with "ifconfig ispppX 0 1 netmask 0xffffff00" and do "route add default -interface ispppX". Then it won't matter what IP-address you have or he has. It will always be used as the default route. Need to update the FAQ for this. --- Gary Jennejohn Home - garyj@muc.de Work - garyj@fkr.dec.com To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-isdn" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-isdn Wed May 27 09:15:59 1998 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id JAA00765 for freebsd-isdn-outgoing; Wed, 27 May 1998 09:15:59 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from cyclone.degnet.baynet.de (www.degnet.baynet.de [194.95.214.129]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with SMTP id JAA00701 for ; Wed, 27 May 1998 09:15:45 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from malte@webmore.com) Received: from neuron.webmore.com (unverified [194.95.214.169]) by cyclone.degnet.baynet.de (EMWAC SMTPRS 0.83) with SMTP id ; Wed, 27 May 1998 18:12:33 +0200 Received: from neuron.webmore.de (malte@webmore.com) by neuron.webmore.com (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id SAA02362; Wed, 27 May 1998 18:14:04 +0200 (CEST) Message-ID: X-Mailer: XFMail 1.2 [p0] on FreeBSD X-Priority: 3 (Normal) Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit MIME-Version: 1.0 In-Reply-To: <3.0.5.32.19980525204724.0089bdf0@istudio.no> Date: Wed, 27 May 1998 18:14:04 +0200 (CEST) Reply-To: malte@webmore.com From: Malte Lance To: Simon Lindgren Subject: RE: "dynamic router" woes Cc: isdn@FreeBSD.ORG Sender: owner-freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org On 25-May-98 Simon Lindgren wrote: > Using latest isdn4bsd on FreeBSD 2.2.6, almost got it working > (reading the docs actually produces results sometimes :) - but > one last thing stands in the way: there's no way I can tell what > gateway-ip my ISP will have ay any call... putting a wrong one > and observing the results (syslogd) gives me: > > still need hisaddress Try using 0.0.0.1 as server-adr. I then started isdntest a second time directly afterwards. Now my phone rang longer, i got more errormsgs ending with a message on the screen asking me to press a key to reboot, which i did. Some time during the bootup-sequence (i guess when probing isic0) the ringing of my phone stopped. Here are the errormsgs i got: /kernel: i4b-L2-i4b_i_frame_queued_up: V(S) == ((V(A) + k) & 127)! /kernel: i4b-L2-i4b_i_frame_queued_up: state = ST_TIMREC /kernel: i4b-L2-i4b_print_l2var: unit0 V(R)=3, V(S)=4, V(A)=3,ACKP=0,PBSY=0,OBSY=0 /kernel: i4b-L2-i4b_invoke_retransmission: nr = 4 /kernel: i4b-L2-i4b_i_frame_queued_up: V(S) == ((V(A) + k) & 127)! /kernel: i4b-L2-i4b_i_frame_queued_up: state = ST_MULTIFR /kernel: i4b-L2-i4b_print_l2var: unit0 V(R)=5, V(S)=5, V(A)=4,ACKP=0,PBSY=0,OBSY=0 /kernel: i4b-L3-i4b_decode_q931: cannot find calldescriptor for cr = 0xa, crflag = 0x1, msg = 0x4d, frame = 0x4d 0x1c 0x15 0x91 0xa1 0x12 0x2 0x2 0x3f 0x5f 0x2 0x1 0x24 0x30 0x9 0x30 0x7 0xa1 0x5 0x30 0x3 0x2 0x1 0x1 /kernel: i4b-L3-T308_timeout: REL not answered, cr = 1 /kernel: i4b-L3-next_l3state: FSM illegal state, state = ST_U12 - Disc Ind, event = EV_T308EXP - T308 timeout! /kernel: i4b-L3-i4b_l3_tx_status: tx STATUS for cr 1 /kernel: i4b-L2-i4b_i_frame_queued_up: V(S) == ((V(A) + k) & 127)! /kernel: i4b-L2-i4b_i_frame_queued_up: state = ST_MULTIFR The next time i tried it, i got the following errors (i am sorry, but i dont know exactly when i got them - this happened when starting isdntest, perhaps for the first time after the reboot, perhaps for the second time): /kernel: i4b-L2-i4b_tei_assign: tx TEI ID_Request /kernel: i4b-L1-timer3_expired: state = F4 Awaiting Signal /kernel: i4b-L2-i4b_T202_timeout: unit 0, N202 = 3 /kernel: i4b-L2-i4b_tei_assign: tx TEI ID_Request /kernel: i4b-L1-ph_data_req: still in state F3! /kernel: i4b-L1-timer3_expired: state = F4 Awaiting Signal /kernel: i4b-L2-i4b_T202_timeout: unit 0, N202 = 3 /kernel: i4b-L2-i4b_tei_assign: tx TEI ID_Request /kernel: i4b-L1-ph_data_req: still in state F3! /kernel: i4b-L1-ph_data_req: No Space in TX FIFO, state = F4 Awaiting Signal /kernel: i4b-L3-T303_timeout: SETUP not answered, cr = 19 /kernel: i4b-L3-next_l3state: FSM illegal state, state = ST_OW - Out Wait EST, event = EV_T303EXP - T303 timeout! When it was up, I got the errormsgs mentioned above (i4b-L2-i4b_mdl_error_ind). I forgot mentioning in my first mail that i am using FreeBSD 2.2.6 and isdn4bsd 0.61 alpha-220598. I am sorry if i flooded this list with useless information, but I considered (at least parts of it) to perhaps be useful for general i4b-debugging, like for example the non-working together with pppd. -- bye, logix Sleep is an abstinence syndrome wich accurs due to lack of coffein. I am using FreeBSD 2.2.6. I compiled the package and then my kernel. Everything worked fine. Now, I want to call my ISP using ISDN. I am using a Fritz!-Card which is well recognized by the kernel - no problem. What I need is a short hint to what I will have to do next. What I have done: I read several manpages. Okay, not bad, but I missed a short description how to establish a ppp-connection to an ISP. My question: Can anyone tell me what I will have to do to establish a ppp-connection? The configuration concerning my ISP: I have got a dynamically assingned IP-address. I do not know the IP-adress of the remote host. I have got the number (sure!). Authentication is pap. How can I dial out? How can I hang up the isppp0-device manually? Which file Do I need to create or edit? It would be great of you if you can send me a few hints.
