I happen to have a local mirror that I can do a "find . -name \*.flp -print" on (resulting in a number of hits underneath FreeBSD/releases), but this would have been a royal pain in the tuccus had I not had that ability. I don't remember how I got the floppy images the first time I installed FreeBSD on one of our servers, but surely it doesn't have to be this painful. Anyway, the machine I'm going to be installing this on will be our new anonymous ftp server, and I'd like to be an official mirror for FreeBSD here in Belgium. If you could point me towards the appropriate people to contact to set that up (or the appropriate page in the Handbook that discusses this), I would appreciate it. Yes! All the versions I've used (2.2.2 to 3.0) before 3.1 had a direct link to the floppy image(s). What happened?? As someone who only recently got very in touch with the FreeBSD scene, I can attest that newbies are going to be completely confused by this. -charon To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-doc" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-doc Mon Mar 8 15:10:16 1999 Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.FreeBSD.ORG [204.216.27.21]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id EFA7914FEE for ; Mon, 8 Mar 1999 15:10:14 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.9.2/8.9.2) id PAA72506; Mon, 8 Mar 1999 15:10:00 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from mail1.svr.pol.co.uk (mail1.svr.pol.co.uk [195.92.193.18]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 02D11151AA for ; Mon, 8 Mar 1999 15:03:06 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from tom@eborcom.com) Received: from modem-23.tantulum.dialup.pol.co.uk ([62.136.36.23]) by mail1.svr.pol.co.uk with esmtp (Exim 2.12 #1) id 10K92s-0002Il-00 for FreeBSD-gnats-submit@freebsd.org; Mon, 8 Mar 1999 23:02:48 +0000 Received: (qmail 1971 invoked by uid 5000); 8 Mar 1999 18:28:35 -0000 Message-Id: <19990308182835.1970.qmail@eborcom.com> Date: 8 Mar 1999 18:28:35 -0000 From: Tom Hukins To: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@freebsd.org X-Send-Pr-Version: 3.2 Subject: docs/10491: Double negative in uniq.1 Sender: owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org >Number: 10491 >Category: docs >Synopsis: Double negative in uniq.1 >Confidential: no >Severity: non-critical >Priority: low >Responsible: freebsd-doc >State: open >Quarter: >Keywords: >Date-Required: >Class: change-request >Submitter-Id: current-users >Arrival-Date: Mon Mar 8 15:10:00 PST 1999 >Closed-Date: >Last-Modified: >Originator: Tom Hukins >Release: FreeBSD 2.2.8-STABLE i386 >Organization: eBORcOM >Environment: >Description: The manual page for uniq(1) contains a double negative. For the record, I use Agent, Pegasus, CuteFTP, and Netscape. But I have been known to use Netscape for some ftp sites. -- Dan Langille The FreeBSD Diary http://www.FreeBSDDiary.com/freebsd To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-doc" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-doc Mon Mar 8 23:34:52 1999 Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Received: from mail.rdc1.sfba.home.com (ha1.rdc1.sfba.home.com [24.0.0.66]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 274E514CA8 for ; Mon, 8 Mar 1999 23:34:50 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from charon@freethought.org) Received: from c40948-a ([24.1.7.99]) by mail.rdc1.sfba.home.com (InterMail v4.00.03 201-229-104) with SMTP id <19990309073433.RIRL21746.mail.rdc1.sfba.home.com@c40948-a>; Mon, 8 Mar 1999 23:34:33 -0800 Message-Id: <3.0.5.32.19990308233421.00a5fe20@mail> X-Sender: tuathadedanann@mail X-Mailer: QUALCOMM Windows Eudora Pro Version 3.0.5 (32) Date: Mon, 08 Mar 1999 23:34:21 -0800 To: "Jordan K. It can be found at the URL http://www.zdnet.com/pcweek/stories/news/0,4153,393030,00.html I think this could be a start of something very good for FreeBSD. Please correct me if I'm wrong (cause I would like to know) that some of the points mention in the article is what FreeBSD already is shooting for. Anyway I thought I'd pass this along. I thought it might be good for "In the Press" section on freebsd.org. Thanks! This is so that I can check that the DocBook version of the Handbook is being installed correctly. After checking out the most recent version of doc-all, please do the following; 1. Install the textproc/docproj port. This is a meta port which pulls in a few others. You do *not* need the TeX installation with this (not including it is the default, so you don't need to do anything out of the ordinary). 2. Make sure /usr/doc/ is up to date (or wherever you store a checked out copy of the doc-all repository). Specifically, the doc/Makefile should contain a LANGSUBDIR variable which *includes* the "en" directory. doc/en/handbook/Makefile should include a DISTRIBUTION variable. If either of these is missing then you're not up to date. 3. Edit doc/Makefile, and change the SUBDIR line from SUBDIR= FAQ handbook to SUBDIR= FAQ 4. Edit the doc.1 target in /usr/src/release/Makefile. Add "DOC_LANG=en" to the "make all distribute" call. 5. Run "make release" as normal. 6. Check that ..../trees/doc/usr/share/doc/handbook/ is populated by HTML files. 7. If you want to generate a plain text version of the Handbook as well, at step 4 above add "FORMATS= html-split txt" to the "make" line too. If that works flawlessly then great, I'm a step closer to the cut-over. If it doesn't, please let me know what went wrong. The simple way is to use my program called tuc (Text to Unix Conversion), which can be had from ftp.whizkidtech.net/unix/ . This program converts files from ANY OS (not just DOS) to Unix. It also has a command line switch (-d) to convert Unix (or any other OS) files back to DOS. The program is written in ANSI C, so it compiles both in FreeBSd and DOS (and anything else with an ANSI C compiler). I use it all the time both under FreeBSD and Windows 95. It has not failed me yet. Feel free not only to mention it in your FAQ but also to distribute it with FreeBSD if you wish. Downloading, compiling, installing, and learning another program's syntax is EASIERS then using two programs that already exist on the system and have been used for a long time? I did not know this was going to a mailing list. I simply followed a link at freebsd.org for contacting the authors of the FAQ. And yes, using tuc is considerably simpler than running a perl script. There is no syntax to learn. At any rate, I was simply trying to offer a simple solution to the FreeBSD team, to use as they please if they please. I had no idea my message was going to go to FreeBSD users at large. I certainly did not mean to imply that everyone should run out and download the program. If my message offended you, accept my apologies. These ioctls have never been defined or implemented on FreeBSD - there is no trace of them anywhere in the CVS repository. Also, parts of the man page end up looking very wierd; for instance, the following paragraph: On the last close of the data device, by default, the interface is brought down .Po as if with .Dq ifconfig tun Ns Sy n No down .Pc . All queued packets are thrown away. .Po If the interface is up when the data device is not open output packets are always thrown away rather than letting them pile up .Pc . is formatted as follows: On the last close of the data device, by default, the interface is brought down (as if with``ifconfig tunn down''). All queued packets are thrown away. pile up (If the interface is up when the data deviceoutput packets are always thrown away rather than letting them). I don't know enough *roff to be able to determine if this is a bug in *roff or a bug in the man page. >How-To-Repeat: $ man 4 tun >Fix: Remove the bogus ioctl descriptions, and add a paragraph about the TUNSIFINFO ioctl. >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-doc" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-doc Sat Mar 13 16:53:38 1999 Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Received: from connection1.ccard.com.br (connection1.ccard.com.br [200.255.198.5]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 03B8614EF2 for ; Sat, 13 Mar 1999 16:53:24 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from aaa@ccard.com.br) Received: from aaa (asc3-26.ccard.com.br [200.244.149.106]) by connection1.ccard.com.br (8.9.2/8.9.2) with SMTP id VAA14194 for ; Sat, 13 Mar 1999 21:52:58 -0300 (EST) Message-ID: <002501be6d9b$6a28cd90$6a95f4c8@aaa.ccard.com.br> Reply-To: "aaa" From: "aaa" To: Date: Sat, 13 Mar 1999 21:49:45 -0000 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Priority: 3 X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 4.72.3110.5 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V4.72.3110.3 Sender: owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org auth 398de1fe unsubscribe freebsd-doc \ aaa@ccard.com.br To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-doc" in the body of the message
