Because I've done this before, it wasn't that painful, but the process is not intuitive and it's not really well documented outside the Makefile. I'm guessing most "newbies" would be more than a little dismayed to see comments about replacing boot-blocks, or worse, messages about incompatible kernel types on reboot after an upgrade. ---------------------------------- E-Mail: Colin Date: 29-Nov-1999 Time: 23:01:30 This message was sent by XFMail ---------------------------------- To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-qa" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-qa Mon Nov 29 20:13:38 1999 Delivered-To: freebsd-qa@freebsd.org Received: from spoon.beta.com (h00a0242f177e.ne.mediaone.net [24.218.8.93]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6406A155C4 for ; Mon, 29 Nov 1999 20:13:35 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from mcgovern@spoon.beta.com) Received: from spoon.beta.com (mcgovern@localhost.beta.com [127.0.0.1]) by spoon.beta.com (8.9.3/8.9.3) with ESMTP id XAA14433; Mon, 29 Nov 1999 23:13:33 -0500 (EST) (envelope-from mcgovern@spoon.beta.com) Message-Id: <199911300413.XAA14433@spoon.beta.com> To: Colin Cc: freebsd-qa@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: A Start In-reply-to: Your message of "Mon, 29 Nov 1999 23:09:54 EST." I tried GIMP and I got a SIG 11 on WMaker. I'll update with the post-mortem on the core file in a while. This looks more like a problem with the GIMP (maybe XFree86?), rather than FreeBSD, but I'll reserve judgement until after I investigate. cheers, Colin On 03-Dec-1999 Calvin NG wrote: > Greetings, > > 3.3-STABLE FreeBSD 3.3-STABLE #0: Wed Dec 1 09:19:30 SGT 1999 > > I reported smooth upgrade via cvsup yesterday. And I have come to the conclusion that it is a local problem, rather than having anything to do with the 3.4-RC. I am going to leave it be for the time being, its not related to the QA, and its not critical to me. :-) Anyway, I did the whole ( re-cvsup, re-"make world", rebuild XFree86, rebuild Enlightenment ) routine, to no success. Tried with just TWM, and still the same thing. I am thinking its something like the GTK or imlib, or libtool, or any of those little things that gets pulled-in in a X environment. You should now be working with the ISO snapshot 3.3-19991204-STABLE.iso for testing. It appear that Jordan got the packages in to the 19991203-STABLE image, but it failed again for the 1204 one. You therefore may want to grab the larger image, and copy the packages over. -Brian To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-qa" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-qa Sat Dec 4 12:57:49 1999 Delivered-To: freebsd-qa@freebsd.org Received: from sand2.sentex.ca (sand2.sentex.ca [209.167.248.3]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6A7901532D for ; Sat, 4 Dec 1999 12:57:45 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from mike@sentex.net) Received: from gravel (ospf-mdt.sentex.net [205.211.164.81]) by sand2.sentex.ca (8.8.8/8.8.8) with SMTP id PAA26897 for ; Sat, 4 Dec 1999 15:57:22 -0500 (EST) (envelope-from mike@sentex.net) Message-Id: <4.1.19991204155222.04b15c90@granite.sentex.ca> X-Sender: mdtancsa@granite.sentex.ca X-Mailer: QUALCOMM Windows Eudora Pro Version 4.1 Date: Sat, 04 Dec 1999 15:56:20 -0500 To: freebsd-qa@FreeBSD.ORG From: Mike Tancsa Subject: Re: RC reminder... Due to the limited time people have to do testing, we figured this would provide at least some time to perform testing, and that we didn't burn the time people had to test with downloading and installing "today's" image. It also buys time for developers to actually fix issues and provide possible patches to the tester (to test) before they've moved on to the next RC. If you wish to track updates more frequently, feel free. Just make sure to report any issues seen against the appropriate release candidate, and try not to move on with open issues that developers would like you to test. Fortunately, the 3.4 release candidates, so far, haven't turned up anything terribly ugly that I've been made aware of, so keeping current will be far less of an issue than cycles (such as 4.0-RELEASE) where we'll probably experience some bumps. -Brian > > Speaking of which, how do you want us to report in ?
