Dave's been one of the most active contributers to the FreeBSD project. -piet To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-sparc" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-sparc Mon Nov 29 20:24:52 1999 Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc@freebsd.org Received: from mercury.Sun.COM (mercury.Sun.COM [192.9.25.1]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E2CE215792; Mon, 29 Nov 1999 20:24:34 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from Peter.Delaney@Eng.Sun.COM) Received: from engmail4.Eng.Sun.COM ([129.144.134.6]) by mercury.Sun.COM (8.9.3+Sun/8.9.3) with ESMTP id UAA23069; Mon, 29 Nov 1999 20:24:32 -0800 (PST) Received: from ha1mpk-mail.eng.sun.com (phys-ha1mpka.Eng.Sun.COM [129.146.53.34]) by engmail4.Eng.Sun.COM (8.9.1b+Sun/8.9.1/ENSMAIL,v1.6) with SMTP id UAA15970; Mon, 29 Nov 1999 20:24:31 -0800 (PST) Received: from campton by ha1mpk-mail.eng.sun.com (SMI-8.6/SMI-SVR4) id UAA20252; Mon, 29 Nov 1999 20:24:30 -0800 Message-Id: <199911300424.UAA20252@ha1mpk-mail.eng.sun.com> Date: Mon, 29 Nov 1999 20:26:25 -0800 (PST) From: Piet Delaney Reply-To: Piet Delaney Subject: Re: Status of FBSD sparc porting? From what I've been seeing Dave's been a super contributer to FreeBSD and I didn't find his position of NetBSD in anyway distrubing. I've been using all three BSD's at home and think all of them could use a lot of polish on the installation process. Dave was the only one to confirm the installation problem that currently exist with the OpenBSD 2.6 tar balls. Clearly it could/should be better. The fact that the FreeBSD project appears to be making some headway into the SPARC archecture again is encouraging and it appears that Dave's a major contributer to that effort and should be in every way encouraged and supported. The fact that he was dissapointed in the installation process of the USENIX NetBSD release should be promoted. I having installed NetBSD on any of my old SPARCstations in a while but do recall FreeBSD and OpenBSD being better. I just assumed they focus more on the kernel hacking. The fact that it had a problem I would think is fine to point out. Anyway, I hope your spanking note is just a typical Jordan joke. I recall your taking the Devil's advocate on almost everthing while you were in England on e-mail chit chat about Intel vs. SPARC arch's. Anyway, I enjoy all of the BSD ports, and hope the SPARC port continues it's progress. BTW, I suggest stealing as much as possible from the {Net and Open} BSD ports and starting from a solid ddd/gdb debugging base. ______ Piet Delaney; UMPK12-3551 /_____/\ Sun Microsystems Inc. /_____\\ \ 12 Network Circle /_____\ \\ / Menlo Park, Ca. 94025 /_____/ \/ / / piet@eng.sun.com /_____/ / \//\ (650) 786-4131 or X:84131 \_____\//\ / / \_____/ / /\ / Home: \_____/ \\ \ pete@www.piet.net \_____\ \\ http://www.piet.net \_____\/ (408) 243-8872 To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-sparc" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-sparc Fri Dec 3 18:56:22 1999 Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc@freebsd.org Received: from wcug.wwu.edu (sloth.wcug.wwu.edu [140.160.164.200]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with SMTP id C869214BEB for ; Fri, 3 Dec 1999 18:56:19 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from cjohnson@wcug.wwu.edu) Received: (qmail 5434 invoked by uid 1089); 4 Dec 1999 02:55:50 -0000 Date: Fri, 3 Dec 1999 18:55:50 -0800 (PST) From: Christopher Johnson X-Sender: cjohnson@sloth Reply-To: Christopher Johnson To: freebsd-sparc@freebsd.org Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Sender: owner-freebsd-sparc@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org subscribe freebsd-sparc To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-sparc" in the body of the message
