Its encouraging to know it will run, once you get past the installation. The installer runs under Java. I couldn't get it to run under the Linux JRE. I tried forcing it to load the FreeBSD port (by editing the JRE path in oraparam.ini), and then I got it to run but it wouldn't install anything. It said there was a problem with the "staging area"(?) (source files). It did manage to create a file $ORACLE_HOME/../oraInventory/install.platform that contained the following: [Platform] ID=0 That makes me think maybe it didn't detect a valid OS and aborted. What does your install.platform file contain? Any ideas on how to fool the installer into continuing? BTW, have you tried running any java inside the database to see if that will work? But I'm pretty sure it will fail too. If memory serves me correctly it hangs on the sigaction() function and friends. I once tried to get this running for the IBM jdk, but it's a pain to fix. I'm still hoping that some unknown genius will fix it :-) (I trimmed the CC: line, I don't think people want it to go to two mailinglists) Marc. -- ---------------------------------------------------- Marc van Kempen BowTie Technology Email: marc@bowtie.nl WWW & Databases tel. +31 40 2 43 20 65 fax. +31 40 2 44 21 86 http://www.bowtie.nl ---------------------------------------------------- To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-database" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-database Tue Aug 22 1:40:14 2000 Delivered-To: freebsd-database@freebsd.org Received: from relay.uvd.chel.su (uvd.chel.su [195.54.2.174]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3B77637B42C for ; Tue, 22 Aug 2000 01:39:43 -0700 (PDT) Received: from isergeya.uvd.chel.su (isergeya.uvd.chel.su [192.168.200.123]) by relay.uvd.chel.su (Postfix) with ESMTP id 57B2F62DF6 for ; Tue, 22 Aug 2000 14:39:36 +0600 (YEKST) Date: Tue, 22 Aug 2000 14:38:52 +0500 From: "Sergey A. The emulation system can not handle this, and it is one of the reasons why native Oracle client libs would be much appreciated on FreeBSD. The emulation system can not handle this, and it is one of the > reasons why native Oracle client libs would be much appreciated on > FreeBSD. We managed to handle this situation in our pure FreeBSD shop. What we have is an Oracle 8.0.5 EE running ALONG with a Linux perl (installed from a binary rpm taken from RedHat ftp) which is used to run dbiproxy(1). This very perl (situated of course under /compat/linux) has a DBD::Oracle installed. So we now connect to our brand Oracle database server from all FreeBSD boxen via DBI->connect('DBI:Proxy:host=xxx;port=3334;dsn=DBI:Oracle:....) without even bothering about some obscure sets of Oracle client libraries. This works only for perl connectivity due to a brilliant DBI::ProxyServer+DBD::Proxy interface by Jochen Wiedmann. -- Alex Kapranoff, Voice: +7(0832)791845. 131 days till brand new millenium...
